Overview
The Reva Wiki is a collaborative effort, as are Wikis in general. Except for Ron, everyone has equal editing power. This power needs to be controlled so that the end result is maximally useful.
Keep in mind that a Wiki is not a discussion board -- it is not designed to have threads of conversation. That is what the forum is for.
Please review the following guidelines and adhere to them:
[edit]
Fitting in
[edit]
Follow the leader
- If you are editing an existing page, do pay attention to its layout and try to make your contribution fit into it.
- If you are creating a new page, look at other pages and try to emulate their layout.
[edit]
Use the Wiki
- Try to avoid using raw HTML codes when there is a Wiki equivalent (there usually is). The reason is twofold:
- If and when the stylesheet for the site is changed, only Wiki markup will look correct
- The Wiki markup takes less space and is easier to edit
- Take advantage of markup to create hyperlinks and add appropriate emphasis
- If possible, link to other parts of the Wiki
- Consider extracting large pieces of text into a separate page, if that will be of general use
[edit]
Be polite
- You are not the only editor. Don't get upset if and when someone changes your text
- If you think your text was changed inappropriately, contact Ron with a complaint; don't engage in flamewars on the Wiki or the forum
- When you edit someone else's page, do so in the least obtrusive way possible. If you think their page is in need of major overhaul, consider discussing this with them offline or via the forum.

Think of the audience
[edit]
Reva is used all over the world - Europe, Asia etc.
- Try to avoid references to popular-culture (television shows or commercials, songs, etc) since what seems obvious from your perspective may not "travel well".
- Try to write in complete, clear English. Remember that many users of this site are not native speakers of English. If you can, spellcheck your text.
- Do not use ethnic, political, religious or sexual references. These definitely do not "travel well"
[edit]
Many of Reva's users are noobs
- Try to avoid using convoluted technical jargon when there are simpler ways to convey your meaning
- Do use terms from the glossary rather than inventing your own.
- If you must use technical jargon, put in links to where the reader can learn more
- If there is a term which should be defined, create a new page and put {{gloss}} at the top of it, so it will be found as part of the glossary
