First, I would like to say that the very best thing about the “World Cup” is that it’s only held every four years. Then, in what might be seen as a sure sign Heaven favors Netanyahu, the current government will be the first one since 1988 to complete its four-year term! Israel will go to the polls [https://www.jpost.com/israel-news/politics-and-diplomacy/article-902333 October 7th], but don’t ask me who’s even running, since that’s not settled yet.

Though the US refueling tankers were supposed to have been removed from Ben Gurion airport, [https://www.jpost.com/israel-news/defense-news/article-902673 that’s being revised] in light of “developments”. Iran’s been shooting missiles at all its neighbors, and apparently, finally, the neighbors have had enough. Depending on the day, the US is either going to obliterate Iran, or sign a deal with them. The suspense is killing me (figuratively)!

I’m using ChatGPT to help with those parts of BT I’m unfamiliar with, and hoping to get it wrapped up in a week. “Hope springs eternal”, &c.

Esther went back to work, sadly commuting (or commuting, sadly,) to her office one day this week. It’s quite a change from the idyllic environment in which we found ourselves while on vacation in Argentina, but someone has to pay the bills; and at present, it’s not me!

We’re mostly back to normal this ''shabbat'', colds left behind. The weather’s going to be hot! For our meals, we’ll prepare:

The flight home was unremarkable, if long; this time, we did actually get the food we had ordered! While I had recovered from last-week’s cold, I got a different one upon landing. Esther also got a cold. Hopefully we’ll be done with colds for a while! At the moment, I have no energy whatsoever.

Good news: our (hybrid) vehicle’s starter battery was adequately charged up by the solar trickle-charger we’d attached, despite three weeks of abandonment. Our fancy water machine (which we had shut off altogether) came back online and remembered its settings!

Less good news: the house was at 30C (that’s 86F for you USAns!) because we hadn’t left windows open. After a few days of A/C it’s tolerable again. Our toilet decided it didn’t need to properly seal, so it was running all the time, and I had to replace its innards. My main laptop turned on for no reason, and the battery “puffed up” so it has to be replaced. Fortunately, “AliExpress” offers the batteries for less, with shipping, than I would pay here; and since they all come from China anyway, I just ordered from them.

The best part of traveling is arriving safely back home!

I’m sure this will come as no surprise to any of my usual readers, but I will be quite happy to be away from the “World Cup” zone! Two of our Uber drivers had ''continuous'' radio coverage of the games and/or discussions of the games and/or analyses of the games. For the entirety of our rides. One of which was an hour long. So yeah, I’ll not be missing this aspect of Argentine culture!

We’ve had a very nice visit here in the Southern Hemisphere. Or, as is plastered all over the city: “The most beautiful city in the world”. I do take exception to that characterization, because while it does have its various charms, it is difficult to point to any particular “beauty” therein. Lots and lots of eateries, though; and truly fantastic ice-cream, I’ll give Buenos Aires that much. Oh, and the “''subte''” (subway system) is cheap, fast, clean, and goes most places you’ll want to go.

Among other activities, our kids went to the [https://www.temaiken.org.ar/bioparque Temaiken zoological park], where the Grands had a most excellent time. We also went (all of us) to the [https://turismo.buenosaires.gob.ar/en/otros-establecimientos/buenos-aires-eco-park Buenos Aires “Ecoparque”], where the Grands got to see even more animals. I’d have thought there was an upper limit to how many exotic rodents one needs to see, but apparently that is a misconception on my part.

In between, we spent much time with Esther’s family, and a good time has been had by all.

This being Esther and my 40th anniversary, we wanted to have a special night-out. We had our sights set on a fancy restaurant, and tried to make reservations, but that business had closed sometime recently. So there we did not go; instead, we went to a burger joint. As it happens, the meal was very good and the place was in a nice part of town. So we did have a good night out after all.

We’re scheduled to begin our return to the Land on Sunday night, late; and scheduled to land in the Land very early Tuesday morning. It’ll be another long flight, and I’ve been assured by the airlines that ''this time'' they’ll have the appropriate kosher meals aboard for us. Being the cynical type, I’m going to make sure we have some decent kosher edibles along in our carry-on bags.

For our last ''shabbat'' in Buenos Aires, we’ll try to have:

Daniela et. fam. went on a side-trip to the [https://iguazuargentina.com Parque Nacional Iguazú], where the Grands had a great time amongst the monkeys and other wildlife to which they are akin. Esther and I enjoyed a brief quantum of peace during which we spent much time with family and discovered our inability to consume more than one substantial meal a day.

The lifestyle here in Buenos Aires is not easily confused with that of our sleepy burgh in Israel. For one thing, everything is closed on Sunday here, whereas in Israel Sunday is just the first work-day. For another, evening meals can’t be obtained earlier than 9PM or so. One tries to adapt, but the older I get, the more difficult and irritating I find adaptation to be. Such is life!

The absolute lunacy coming out of D.C. is truly astonishing and enraging. The “Iran deal”, cosying up to Qatar and Turkey, and pissing all over US allies… all of it makes me hope beyond all possible hope that there’s some 5D chess move going on that we’re not privy to. But I’m not optimistic, to put it very mildly.

What I can say is what I’ve said many times in the past: first, it’s long past time for my fellow Jews to get the hell out of Dodge while it is possible and relatively easy. Second, it’s way the hell past time for Israel to disentangle itself from the most dangerous “ally” in the world, the USA. We need to make it much more difficult for Uncle Sam to veto or impeded actions we ''must'' take for our own defense. The current situation is untenable and extremely dangerous—not only for Israel, but for the entirety of Western Civilization.

Oof.

Well, we’re planning on a relatively quiet ''shabbat'' here in Tango Central. The weather has been cold in the mornings, and brisk most of the rest of the day.

This blog is being sent on Thursday, because we‘re now in the Exile and want to make sure our Israeli readers can see it before ''shabbat''.

We took a ''very'' long flight, around 25 hours (TLV-FCO-EZE), to get to Buenos Aires. As a result, I‘m completely wiped out and therefore this is going to be an unusually short blog.

You may well have expected me to provide my reaction to [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BqdtW3i5Lhc the craziness] happening in the Middle East; but since I‘ve no energy left, I‘ll leave that to my [https://penamacorrespondent.blog/peace-agreement-not-from-where-im-standing/ more literate friend] to expound. I‘ll have quite a lot to say, probably, next week. My assumption is that what we know now, will be turned on its head by then. Not necessarily in a good way.

As for the flight: on both legs, the airlines (El Al and Aerolineas Argentinas) only gave us half the food we had ordered (months before, and had verified two days ago). So we arrived at our destination quite less well fed than we had planned.

However, our luggage arrived intact (as did we), and we breezed through Argentina‘s immigration and customs. So all‘s well that ends well?

Daniela ''et. fam.'' are supposed to arrive here tomorrow around noon; and we‘re all quite excited and looking forward to their arrival. Hopefully their travel will be less “interesting” than ours had been!

For our first ''shabbat'' in Buenos Aires, we‘re having delivered:

Iran’s been shooting missiles at all its neighbors, and apparently, finally, the neighbors have had enough. Depending on the day, the US is either going to obliterate Iran, or sign a deal with them. The suspense is killing me (figuratively)!
