If you have 10.04 (Lucid) and want to upgrade to 10.10 (Maverick), you may be tempted to simply [http://www.howtoforge.com/how-to-upgrade-kubuntu-10.04-lucid-lynx-to-10.10-maverick-meerkat follow these instructions].  Unfortunately, they did not work properly for me on '''three''' different machines!

What do you need to do?
# Follow the above instructions, but when it hangs (as it did for me three times), 'kill' the upgrade process, '''ignore''' the "reboot" notice, and then
# Open a terminal window and type: <tt>sudo dpkg --configure -a</tt>
# When that ends, type: <tt>sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get upgrade</tt> just to make sure you have the latest

Now you should be able to reboot and everything ''should'' work.
