It was the quietest and shortest ''seder'' we’ve ever had. Just the three of us. Nobody making jokes or asking questions. Even though Esther and I read the entire ''hagadah'' in Hebrew ''and'' English, with singing, we were done by 10pm. That’s a record for us, and we weren’t trying for a record. Next year in Jerusalem!

Our menu was also cut back compared to previous years. Just home-made ''matsa'', vegetable-matsa-ball-soup, brisket, chicken, a few salads. We were basically finished with all our preparations by 2:30 Wed afternoon. That gave us time to enjoy talking leisurely with our kids and grand-kids, which was a good thing, all told. We won’t get to speak with the grand-kids again until Sunday, since they have a three-day ''yom-ṭov'', unlike those of us who dwell in the Land.

Speaking of COVID-19, which we weren’t:

* The [https://www.dailywire.com/news/walsh-we-have-become-a-police-state-and-none-of-us-should-be-okay-with-that libertarian implications] of how the coronavirus outbreak is being handled.
* Bernie Sanders [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W0M5uTCt3g4 has suspended his campaign]! I know, it’s not virus-related exactly, but his chosen political philosophy has been a plague upon humanity which has killed 100-million humans in the past century. More than all the influenzas combined (if you exclude the Spanish flu of 1917/18, which killed 50M-100M on its own). Just sayin’…

On a completely different topic: a rant about [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eZ13ibdl3vg “Star Trek: Picard”]. If you don’t like SciFi or Star Trek, just skip over. If you have ever enjoyed the various Star Trek series, I urge you to stay away from “Picard”. The new directors have taken a series that was all about hope and unity and how humanity could overcome its differences, and turned it into a dark and brooding and pointless (and worst of all: boring) tale about nothing. They took the “Captain Picard” character, who was a decisive commander, and turned him into a doddering old fool. They took “Seven of Nine” and turned her from a fascinating study of what it means to be human, into an alcoholic and cynical (and apparently lesbian) drab.

That’s not how you keep fans, folks.

It didn’t rain on ''pesaḥ'', but it’s raining as I write this. It will be rainy/drizzly over ''shabbat'' as well, but clear up to fine spring weather for the coming week.

We’ll be having another quiet ''shabbat'', it looks like. No objections on my part.
