New page

{{blog}} {{comment|Aug 14th}}

So I took the plunge this week, into [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vibe_coding “vibe coding”]. After hearing good things from Jeremy and others, I decided to ask ChatGPT to design a certain genealogy project I’ve been thinking about. In about a 20 minute session, with me telling it what capabilities and features I wanted, and refining its design, we’d settled on what seemed to me a reasonable initial design.

The next day, I asked the AI to start writing [https://8th-dev.com/ 8th code] for the back end, and HTML/Javascript for the front end. Considering that it’s never encountered 8th before, it did a reasonable job. After about 5 iterations of me correcting its mistakes, I had a basic app that didn’t crash. After another 10 iterations, I’m homing in on a quite capable app. Not gonna lie, I’m impressed. Less than a day’s work to make a useful and useable program. And in addition, it found a bug in 8th which I need to fix!

I definitely see the attraction, though the initial phases of coding seemed like I was mentoring a mentally retarded person. That did change, fortunately!

Various and sundry:
* Uri: the UN [https://urikurlianchik.substack.com/p/the-un-just-debunked-the-un just debunked the UN]; and the [https://urikurlianchik.substack.com/p/the-left-wont-and-the-right-cant Left won’t and the Right] can’t.
* Preston: the Iran war [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=84ym8qMGpgE just expanded]; the US is [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CaHTiPaNzgQ stuck in the Middle East] again.
* Sabine: neuroscience [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jHGx7HBB-J4 is in big trouble].
* On “Flock cameras”: It is better that [https://thelawdogfiles.substack.com/p/it-is-better-that-ten-guilty-persons ten guilty people escape]…
* Food nerds: forgotten [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jQ4u0jamJt4 cold drinks] of history.
* Computer nerds: Richard Hipp on [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V_qzqY1bb7I reliability lessons] from SQLite.

Out of the blue, a new third-cousin (on my mother’s father’s mother’s side) came to light, one who lives here in Israel! She gave me information about a branch of the family I didn’t have much knowledge of, so that was very useful. And she turned out to be pleasant to talk to as well, so that was a bonus.

In other exciting news, the [https://www.menshealth.com/fitness/a25424850/best-hiit-exercises-workout/ HIIT parade] goes on, and I’m pleased to say that I’m meeting my goal of four sessions a week. I expect it’ll be another month or so before I can tell if it’s doing me any good. At least it’s not doing any harm…

Esther’s continuing to deal with other people’s taxes, much to her chagrin… but someone has to pay the bills!

The new month of ''elul'' started today; one month until ''Rosh Hashanah''… and we’re not ready, at all. Are we ever truly ready?

The heat wave this week, was roughly the same as last week’s. It’s supposed to cool back down to normal temperatures for ''shabbat''… time will tell!

This ''shabbat'' we’re out for one meal; for the rest we’ll have:
<br>
''pitot'',
''ḥamin'',
roast chicken,
roasted vegetables,
various ''salatim'',
and a dessert, if we’re lucky.
<br><br>

Until next time,<br>
''shabbat shalom''!<br>
