Hi again!

A good week it was: caught up with some friends [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_HPiAgneDd8 from the old country]. Had coffee with my cousin from Mevasseret Tsion, her leg is mostly healed now. Was able to meet my mid-January deadline three weeks ahead of schedule. The weather was pleasantly cool but not freezing. And none of us had a cold!

But not was all well with the world, as you are undoubtedly aware. Europe persists in its [http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748703478704574611594259358238.html?mod=googlenews_wsj#articleTabs_comments%26articleTabs%3Darticle obsession with Israel]. The Israeli government is treating its citizens [http://www.jpost.com/servlet/Satellite?cid=1261244337062&pagename=JPost%2FJPArticle%2FShowFull like the enemy]. The silly idiot who got her Mac blown up last week blogs her anti-Israel venom to the world. But [http://lilysussman.wordpress.com/2009/11/30/im-sorry-but-we-blew-up-your-laptop-welcome-to-israel/#comment-432 one comment on her blog] sums up my attitude as well. And a recent study shows the US "stimulus plan" [http://www.usnews.com/blogs/peter-roff/2009/12/19/data-shows-that-the-stimulus-package-was-a-waste-of-money.html was a waste of money]! D'ya think? And now, US consular personnel [http://www.jpost.com/servlet/Satellite?cid=1261364500043&pagename=JPost%2FJPArticle%2FShowFull actively try to compromise Israeli security]. Good friends we have.

On the other hand, a recently revealed archival document shows that my hometown of Maale Adummim was approved by [http://www.jpost.com/servlet/Satellite?cid=1261364481156&pagename=JPost%2FJPArticle%2FShowFull the Rabin government]! So if it was good enough for St. Rabin, how could any of the Israeli Left disapprove? Quite a conundrum! I'm sure our [http://muqata.blogspot.com/2009/12/abandoned-principles-and-fascism-as.html fascist Defense Minister] will find a way to make it all work out for the Left. The good news in all that is that the Labor party of which he is the head, has essentially disappeared. Good riddance to old trash, as the saying goes...

In work news, we had a meeting this week with an Important Person from one of our clients. This particular client is in fact a very big company (which I didn't even know existed). Pretty much every VCR, DVD player, television etc... all have their software inside. Anyway, my task was to integrate their software into our product so they could demo at the [http://www.cesweb.org/ CES conference] in the second week of January. They were hoping I would be done by then. In fact, I was done yesterday (B"H!)... so now I can just work on making improvements. Maybe they'll buy us and I'll be rich ... yeah, well it was a good day-dream.

Ron's recommendations:
* [http://frugalware.org/news/145 Frugalware 1.1] is the first Linux distro which actually worked 'out of the box' with my laptop. Sweet!
* [http://www.cowonglobal.com/product_wide/COWOND2PLUS/product_page_1.php Cowan D2+] music player. Superb sound, incredible battery life, and it plays [http://www.vorbis.com/ Ogg-Vorbis] format music!
* [http://www.zap.co.il/model.aspx?modelid=5778 Delonghi electric radiator]. Quiet and efficient. Takes the chill off the room and minds its own business.

We're having a couple girls as guests this ''shabbat''. Among the treats awaiting them: roast turkey breast; meatball cholent; chocolate-coconut cookies; honey cake ... and of course, the usual ''salatim''. Enjoy!

Until next week,<br>
Shabbat shalom!<br>
