So: another very busy week in our domain. Esther’s still fighting the tax battles against deadlines. Sarah’s still wondering about the wisdom of her life-choices. Daniela reluctantly returned to teaching reluctant teens. I worked my fingers to the bone, figuratively.

I released the (hopefully) final “beta” release of the new, improved! [https://8th-dev.com/ 8th]. There’s still quite a bit of work ahead of me before public release, but I don’t want to delay that longer than absolutely necessary, since I want a wider audience for feedback.

I spent most of my time working on a project for my newest client. This is a [https://www.hhs.gov/hipaa/for-professionals/security/laws-regulations/index.html HIPAA-compliant] database and website, so there’s a lot of security-related issues to address. It doesn’t help that the client’s specification is quite vague; or, rather, it does — since I’ll probably be working on it for quite a while.

Israeli elections are a bit over a week away, for the ''third'' time in the space of a year. Since [https://knessetjeremy.com/ nothing seems to have changed], there’s no reason to assume the outcome will be different than the previous two times. The Israeli slang for this is ''fashla'': which means a monumentally embarrassing screw-up (from local Arabic slang, for “a disgrace”). I’m advocating for them to settle it all by means of flint-lock pistols at ten paces. At least that might be entertaining.

Variously interesting, or not:
* High-capacity magazines [https://reason.com/2020/02/11/magazines-over-10-rounds-were-well-known-to-the-founders/ were known to the US Founders]; they’ve been around a very long time, surprisingly.
* Michael Bloomberg, the former mayor of NYC and a late entrant to the Dem. race, shows [https://reason.com/2020/02/16/if-jesus-was-a-jew-why-does-he-have-a-puerto-rican-first-name/ he has a sense of humor]. Unfortunately for him, the D base is not amused. And despite [https://www.cnn.com/2020/02/20/politics/michael-bloomberg-debate-campaign-spending/index.html spending a whopping half-billion] dollars on his campaign so far, he’s having trouble contending with an [https://townhall.com/columnists/johncgoodman/2016/02/13/bernie-sanders-is-not-a-social-democrat-hes-a-marxist-n2118509 angry, hypocritical, Marxist octogenarian grifter].
* If you think the Japanese quarantine of a ship infected with “coronavirus” was harsh, just be glad [https://www.taiwannews.com.tw/en/news/3876080 you’re not North Korean].
* A research paper on how [https://www.researchgate.net/publication/230333668_Lethal_Stereotypes_Hair_and_Eye_Color_as_Survival_Characteristics_During_the_Holocaust1 hair and eye color] served as survival characteristics during the Holocaust.

The weather warmed up a bit this past week, but we still have occasional showers. It’s supposed to rain heavily over ''shabbat'', which is bad timing for us…
