{{bheadernew|Jun 17th|http://ronware.org/devar/shlach5771.pdf}}

Hi, again!

I'm famous, and good looking too! Ongoing warfare between the two- and six-legged. Getting ready for our guests. There's no place like home!

Little did I realize that I'm not only famous, I'm good looking as well. The other day we went out to eat, and at the end of the meal the waiter said he knew me from somewhere, that (he thought) I was a famous politician. I told him, "Heaven forbid!" No, I'm no politician and if he knew me he would know how unlikely a profession that would be for me. Then Sarah reported that she has shown pictures of Esther and I to her ladies, and two of them remarked how good-looking her father was (!). And finally, one of the nurses at the clinic this week told the other nurse that I am "one of the most aesthetic patients they have". Not sure what she meant by that... anyway, I'm officially good-looking and famous. Who could have predicted that?

Speaking of Sarah, she decided to cook one day this week (in her apartment in Tel Aviv). As she went to get lentils from the cupboard, she noticed a bug in them; and on closer inspection, noticed hundreds of [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Weevil weevils] crawling in their dry-goods. So no lentils, this week. Here we have been fighting the good fight against the seasonal ant invasion -- but to little effect. They seem to be uninterested in the normal sweet bait, so the best I can do is spray and try to plug the holes they come in from -- but they're resourceful beasties. In a disappointing development, I posted a request for funds to continue my research into ant elimination, and have got not one sheqel! I figure if [http://inhabitat.com/poop-burger-japanese-researcher-creates-artificial-meat-from-human-feces/ this Japanese research] can get funding, mine should be able to! It's just not fair ...

Esther and I are getting the house ready for our summer onslaught of visitors. So little by little we're taking care of the things we've been planning to do for so long. For example, I trimmed our olive trees (inexpertly) and have been cleaning up the garden debris. I wanted to keep some of the olive wood, but the little trimming saw I had was not good for cutting the thick and tough wood into smaller pieces. So I bought a [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bow_saw bow-saw], and a hatchet.

Those of you who've known me since before we moved to the Land, know that I used to do a lot of woodworking. So it is triply embarrassing that I purchased such lousy tools! The hatchet could actually double as a heavy butter-knife. No cutting-edge whatsoever on it, just a rounded edge. I need to take a file to it. The saw-blade's [http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/kerf kerf] is exactly the width of the blade, so it binds as soon as you've cut into the wood the depth of the blade. ''caveat emptor''!

As I was out there cleaning up the olive branches, I noticed a neighbor across the street laboriously take a large television, put it in the back of his car, and ''back up'' the street (it's a one-way street) to the corner so he could throw it out. As soon as he did that, I saw one of the Arab construction workers from a few houses down, go to the dumpster and haul the TV back, perched on one shoulder. It was an impressive sight!

What else? Israel had a good view of this week's [http://eclipse.gsfc.nasa.gov/OH/OH2011.html#LE2011Jun15T total lunar eclipse]. We also enjoyed an incredible sunset one evening as volcanic ash from an eruption in Eritrea passed by Israel. Daniela did a wonderful job of cooking a ratatouille this week, it tasted fantastic. But she followed the recipe closely (which is a good thing!) and used 1/2 cup of oil -- which gave us a chance to watch a close-up eruption of Mount Esther as she complained about her sabotaged diet.

I was a hero at work, since I was able to get our app on the Android tablet talking to our app on the PC. Haven't seen a bonus yet, but I'm sure it's just around the corner ...

Just the four of us this week. The menu includes: teriyaki tuna, roasted eggplant, ''matbucha'', ''ḥumus'', red lentil soup, schnitzel, butternut squash puree, roasted beets, zucchini and mushrooms, ''couscous'', chocolate chip sticks, meatballs with potatoes.

Until next week,<br>
shabbat shalom!
