New page

{{blog}} {{comment|March 11th}}

We slacked-off a bit this week, I’m afraid. Both of us spent more time doing work-work than doing house-work. So while we did make some progress unrubbling the rubble, it was done at a more moderate pace.

That said, Esther’s office is now quite nice (sorry, Sarah!). Still more to do there – especially transferring wall-mounted things from my office to hers. Shortly, B”H…

In the work-work sphere, I’ve spent a lot of time in Zoom conversations with contractors we are interviewing to do the “UI/UX” portion of a project. We’re gathering quotes, and I must say I am way, way, undercharging for my services. Or perhaps they’re way, way, overcharging. Perhaps both are true at the same time…

In the torah-work sphere, I’ve been fielding all the emails for [https://mechon-mamre.org/index.htm “Mechon Mamre”] since Mori Shelomo passed away. I have a new appreciation for all the work he did; but more importantly, I wonder how he managed to keep his cool most of the time.

Don’t get me wrong: there are some interesting, thoughtful, and provocative emails. But the majority are ones that make you shake your head and want to down tequila shots in quick succession. Not that I would do that. Not often, at least.

Various and sundry:
* A former Soviet citizen on [https://www.piratewires.com/p/reality-crash “Reality crash”]: pravda, the collapse of truth in a world without trust, and dawn of the reality entrepreneur.
* On the [https://bariweiss.substack.com/p/the-dawn-of-uncivilization dawn of uncivilization].
* The soon-to-come [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I1cTrKh3ork cashless hell-world].
* The differences between [https://slashdot.org/software/comparison/GETTR-vs-Gab-vs-Parler-vs-Twitter/ various social media] platforms, from a technical point of view.

From a user’s point of view (I’m on all of them; this is a Public Service Message):
* Reddit: whiner’s delight. Members mostly full of self-righteousness, self-confidence, and lacking all social graces.
* Twitter: home of the “ultra-woke”. One must be circumspect when voicing opinions outside the Current Truth.
* Gab: the “Mos Eisley” of the lot. A “wretched hive of scum and villainy”, populated by Nazis and conspiracy kooks. Some interesting things there, but don your asbestos underwear before entering.
* GETTR: mostly Republicans who aren’t Trump.
* Parler: mostly Libertarians who aren’t Trump.
* MeWe: trying to make a buck off of not being Twitter.
* Minds: mostly uninteresting and bland. Not harmful, not beneficial.
* Facebook: where I keep in touch with all my elderly relatives and friends.

I made [https://8th-dev.com/forum/index.php/topic,2420.0.html another release] of 8th this week. This one incorporates enhancements I found useful from using 8th for clients’ jobs. I suspect that will be an ongoing theme, now that I have two serious clients for whom I’m using 8th.

The weather’s been mostly nice, but a storm-front came in last night with rain and hail and much cooler temperatures. For ''shabbat'' it’s supposed to be cloudy with a chance of drizzle.

This ''shabbat'' we’ll try out:<br>
homemade ''ḥalla'',
red lentil soup,
chicken with barley and mushrooms,
steak stir-fry,
stir-fried veggies,
various ''salatim'',
and some sort of dessert.<br>

Until next time,<br>
''shabbat shalom''!
