{{blog}} {{comment|March 13th}}

It was a bit of a hectic week: Purim, [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coronavirus_disease_2019 COVID-19], visitors, work. Despite all that, not much to tell.

For Purim we considered not going to the reading, but in the end we did go. The evening reading was almost bereft of people, while the morning one was jam-packed. I did feel sorely tempted to punch the fellow behind me who was screaming at the top of his lungs; but I’m a kinder, gentler, Ron these days.

The latest virus to invade (all of) our fair shores has thrown people into a panic. While Americans buy six-month supplies of toilet paper, Israelis buy up all the canned goods. Fortunately, we barely use canned goods…

And various stores are now offering free home-delivery so they don’t lose customers. The Nespresso folks will deliver your urgently needed coffee capsules for free. Even the underwear store Delta will deliver for free. Who needs underwear that urgently? I suppose if you’ve run out of toilet paper…

Israel update: still no government. Woo-hoo! But our non-government has nevertheless issued a decree that gatherings of more than 100 people are forbidden, because of COVID-19.

Things you need to know:
* My new hero: [https://www.cnn.com/2020/03/09/us/driver-expired-license-plate-tags-police-busy-trnd/index.html “didn’t have time”] to renew his license plate tags. Since 1979.
* Microsoft’s “Edge” browser [https://betanews.com/2020/03/09/microsoft-edge-privacy-telemetry/ is rated worst] of all in terms of privacy protections. Why am I not surprised?
* Google isn’t innocent: they could have fixed [https://www.zdnet.com/article/google-could-have-fixed-2fa-code-stealing-flaw-in-authenticator-app-years-ago/ a code-stealing flaw] in their “Authenticator” app years ago, but didn’t.
* And the US “EARN IT” bill is [https://blog.cryptographyengineering.com/2020/03/06/earn-it-is-an-attack-on-encryption/ a direct attack on end-to-end encryption], and a very bad bit of legislation. Tell your representatives (if you’re a USA’n).
* The [https://ncov2019.live/data “Coronavirus Dashboard”]. Keep your panic up to date!
* Did you know? The 1918 “Spanish Influenza” was the [https://wwwnc.cdc.gov/eid/article/12/1/05-0979_article ancester of all our modern] seasonal flus!

As for us? Esther’s been on vacation this week, spending time with her father. They’ve done a bit of wandering about, but not much; that foreign virus, you know? I’ve been working on a client’s project, and on 8th. Progress on both fronts, but nothing you’ll be excited about.

Esther and I just came back from a Friday morning outing. She likes to get me out of the house from time to time, so we went to a cemetery in Beit Shemesh. It was supposed to have been the “unveiling” for our friend who passed away a year ago. We went, but nobody else did as far as we could tell. Maybe it wasn’t the right cemetery? Fun times!

This ''shabbat'' we’re expecting rain (again). Due to the aforementioned gov’t decree, our synagogue has decided to split the ''shabbat'' services in two, and asked that people sign up. I’m trying to work up the energy, but not succeeding.

The weather will alternate between spring sunshine and winter rain. Here’s hoping for pleasant weather for ''shabbat''!

The four of us will dine upon:
<br>
homemade ''ḥalla'',
roast turkey,
roast potatoes,
grilled veggies,
veggie soup,
veggie ''cholent'',
various ''salatim'',
and post-Purim cookies etc.

Until next time,<br>
''shabbat shalom''!
