We’re back home after a very enjoyable sojourn with family. Not gonna lie: I’m well pleased to have my own bathroom again. Nevertheless, as always, we had a good time with the Grands and their parents and Aunt Sarah and Uncle Yarin. The weather while we were there was mostly pleasant, though the plane trip was just this side of excruciating.

That’s the price we’re willing to pay.

The Grands had their birthday parties, each on a separate day; and it was educational to see the difference (in behavior, among other things) between a girls’ party and a boys’ party. Let’s just say the boys invite a comparison to a band of barely tamed chimps, while the girls seem ready to start their own gossip-column. Sociologists and anthropologists take note!

I’ll take this opportunity to point out to whoever the Sensitive Geniuses™ are who designed and built the JFK check-in system, that it is prudent to run tests on the capabilities and capacity of any system before deploying it to the public at large. The passport scanners didn’t work, so we had to go to a person to take care of scanning them (as did most of the other people in our restive group of Israeli travelers).

At that point, the person printed out luggage tags and affixed them to our checked-luggage. Of course, the high-tech luggage-scanner machine failed to recognize the luggage tags, so we spent another five minutes or so while a person harangued them until they reluctantly acquiesced to accept our bags.

Surely, there’s got to be a better way…

As I’ve mentioned before, the new “hybrid” vehicles have a tiny 12V battery which keeps the various computers and assorted electronics of the car running even when you’re not using the car. Last time we traveled, the car was “flat” when we returned and needed a jump. This time, I hooked up a “solar trickle-charger” I had purchased a few years back. When we returned this time, the car seemed to be fine. Geek tech for the win!

We’re looking forward to getting over our intense jet-lag this ''shabbat'', and perhaps enjoying pleasantly warm weather…

This ''shabbat'' we’re back home and invited out for a meal. For the rest:
