 Monday we decided to go to [http://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/jsource/Archaeology/Telshilo.html Tel Shilo].  Using our trusty map, we followed route 60 north out of Jerusalem and promptly ended up almost in Ramallah.  We (I, really) didn't pay attention to a sign [[Media:no-entry-to-jews.jpg|like this one]], which reads: "This road continues to 'Area A', which is under the control of the Palestinian Authority.  It is ''forbidden'' for Israelis to enter Area A, is a ''danger to your lives'', and constitutes a ''criminal offense''.".  So the Palis are well on their way to getting their Judenrein state of terrorists.  And we, idiots, are making it possible.
-Monday night we had my cousins over.  Tuesday we rested, after all the excitement; but then the roof blew off my sukkah, which added back a certain level of excitement we had been missing.  Wednesday we drove to Raanana to visit friends.  Didn't detour to any Area A attractions, thank God!  And Thursday we had a friend over for lunch, then I visited another friend.  All in all a very interesting and mostly restful week.

-As a joke, I gave the following ''derasha'' on Monday night:  "Our Sages mentioned that the 70 bulls brought as sacrifices during the sukkot holiday, correspond to the 70 nations of the world.  But they don't explain why bulls are brought.  Perhaps it is God's way of telling us the nations of the world are full of bull!".  This was, of course, before I heard the incredible news that the Obamanator [http://www.jpost.com/servlet/Satellite?cid=1254861907276&pagename=JPost%2FJPArticle%2FShowFull won the Nobel Peace prize].  Not only has he accomplished ''nothing whatsoever'' in his nine months in office, the parties in our neck of the woods are even ''farther apart'' than ever!  It makes me wonder: just how much of a bribe does a Nobel Prize actually cost?  I mean, he was President of the USA for only two weeks before the nomination process for the prize was closed...

+Well, this was a week full of adventure!  Being the intermediate days of Sukkot, we wanted to "get out" a bit.  So on Sunday, Esther and I were planning to go a free tour put on by the Ministry of Science and Technology.  According to the [http://www.most.gov.il/%D7%99%D7%97%D7%99%D7%93%D7%95%D7%AA/Science+and+Community/National+Science+Festival1/mapMopim.htm official web site], the place we were intending to go was halfway between Hevron and Jerusalem.  So we went... and went... and ended up almost in Hevron when we decided that we must have the wrong instructions.  So we asked someone nearby, who told us the place we were looking for wasn't between Hevron and Jerusalem, but between Beer Sheva and Hevron!  At least we got a nice drive out of it.

		+	A short blog for this week, since it was a short week (because of ''yom hakippurim'') and we are rushing to finish preparations for tonight, which is ''shabbat'' as well as the festival of ''sukkot''.

		+	''Yom hakippurim'' was sunday-night through monday, and was pretty much the same as it is every year. The public "repetition" of the ''amidah'' is, in Ashkenazi tradition, filled with all sorts of extra stuff ("extra" as in "extraneous", and "not required"). So much so, that what would take only twenty minutes without the additions, becomes anywhere from an hour and a half to two or so hours. I'm not going to Ashkenazi services next year, please God -- I'll go back to the Temanim for the high-holidays.

		+	Anyway, Esther came to some of the services -- though it was almost a half-hour walk for her. She's getting better, slowly; but much physical exertion is still beyond her at this point.

		+	Notwithstanding that, she has toiled to produce a nice holiday meal for tonight, with our help. The menu? Glad you asked:

		+	The day before ''yom hakippurim'', I got the ''sukkah'' ready. That involved not only erecting the frame (not a big task), but trimming the olive trees so the "roof" of our ''sukkah'' is not obstructed (that was a BIG task). But B"H, the ''sukkah'' is ready and electrified, ready for dinner tonight. I can't wait!
