Hi, again!

So I did actually fix the ''trisim'' last week, which was good because the weather has turned cool (and even a bit damp) and windy. After ''shabbat'', I started affixing the Swedish stainless-steel hanger-things from IKEA on our kitchen walls. While I had no difficulties with most of them, drilling through the tiles into the cement walls -- one tile cracked (because it didn't have an even coating of cement behind it, so it was weak). Now I have to replace that tile, and it's proving to be a bit ''inconvenient''.

According to Sarah: "Sarah is amazing, fantastic and super good-looking". I'm not sure what prompted that, but it's good she has a positive self-image. Anyway, her first full week of school has been very interesting, she really likes it. The people are nice, the classes are small and she's been learning a lot about the basics of film production.

Daniela is doing well, and Jeremy is very excited about tracking [http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/refresh/graphics_at3+shtml/205823.shtml?5-daynl tropical storm Sandy]. He's kind of an excitable guy when it comes to weather. Daniela's first graders finished their first Hebrew workbook, on which she's been working with them.

My nephew Chris was accepted to the [http://www.birthrightisrael.com/Pages/Default.aspx Birthright Israel] program, so we'll be seeing him B"H at the end of December. We're all very excited to have him come on his ''very first visit'' to the Holy Land!

What else? Well, Esther and I both voted in the US elections, casting our absentee ballots via FAX. And the Israeli election scene has become quite a bit more interesting, since yesterday's announcement that [http://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/161344#.UIpcx3YtAks Likud and Israel Beitenu] will be running a joint ticket. That means the "center-right" will have a bloc of 45-50 seats in the [http://www.knesset.gov.il/main/eng/home.asp Knesset], though it is far from clear what the longer-term ramifications will be. It's also not so clear what advantage Netanyahu sought by merging with Liberman's party. Interesting times...

I have a lot more to say, but I'll hold off until next week; for now I've got to have some lunch and then prepare foodly things for ''shabbat''.

My [http://www.myjewishlearning.com/practices/Ritual/Torah_Study/How_to_Study_Torah/Havruta_Learning_in_Pairs_.shtml ''ḥevruta''] and his family will be joining us for ''shabbat'' dinner. They can hope to enjoy:
''ḥumus'',
roasted eggplant with ''ṭeḥina'',
cauliflower soup,
fried [http://www.paskovich.co.il/english/Article.aspx?Item=905 ''barbunia''] with caper-olive sauce,
roast beef,
turkey meatballs,
rice,
baked potatoes and yams,
zucchini with mushrooms,
apple cake
and banana muffins.

Until next week,<br>
''shabbat shalom''!
