Hi, again!

Lots of stuff went on this week. Sunday was the busiest day, starting with our business advisor and then a couple medical appointments. Work was pretty intense as well. On Thursday I met with my cryptographer. Lots of stuff.

Our business advisor is quite patient, which is a good thing. He’s given me (us) assignments to do: writing out “business plans” of various kinds for different purposes. The problem is that neither I nor Esther are good at that side of things, so our efforts don’t quite meet the mark as far as he’s concerned. Thus we ended up with another face-to-face on Sunday, and I ended up spending many hours trying to write up something he would approve of. By Wednesday I had finished, and sent it to him; so far I haven’t heard back, but that could just be because he’s given up.

Sarah went to the dentist because her teeth had been hurting, but the dentist told her that her teeth are excellent and in great condition, and that she should continue taking care of them however she is taking care of them. No cavities — he said she probably bit on something hard or otherwise jolted her teeth, so that’s why they hurt.

I went to my yearly ophthalmologist exam. There’s nothing wrong with my eyes… except that one eye doesn’t see distance well and the other doesn’t see close-up well. So, as usual, I’m out of balance. I also went to my regular doctor so he could get my upcoming [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnetic_resonance_imaging MRI exam] approved (e.g. paid-for by the health-fund). A few days later I did get their letter of commitment to pay, so that’s a good thing I suppose.

Esther has been walking a great deal, and taking advantage of the GPS in her new-fangled phone to report on just exactly how far she’s walked. So she’s up to some 6km a day, which is a lot more than she was ever walking, ever in the history of ever. And I’ve also resumed walking, but at a more moderate pace and schedule — because I’m trying to build up strength without causing more damage to my knees in the process. No need to tempt fate.

The cryptographer finished his review of the security design of [http://aaron-tech.com/accumulus.html ''accumulus''], and his feedback was not only interesting but very useful. Now I have to rework my design document to incorporate his feedback, and get ready to write the code. In the meantime, I’m making excellent progress on [http://aaron-tech.com/8th.html 8th], which is the tool I will use to write ''accumulus''.

Sarah has started diving into her job as our QA person. Since that’s not her profession, I’ve started her out reviewing existing reported bugs (in my [http://aaron-tech.com/zemanim.html ''zemanim''] application). She’s a bit outraged at how poorly people write — both at the spelling and grammar, and at the lack of detail in the reports. She’s also outraged that I’ve got some less-than-functional features in ''zemanim''. She’ll get used to it; in the meantime, she’s picking up another marketable skill.

There is so much to say about the exposure of the NSA vis-à-vis [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_Brother_(Nineteen_Eighty-Four) Big Brother] — much of which I’ve already said — that I won’t bother with it this time around. But all that, coupled with the [http://www.forbes.com/sites/theapothecary/2013/10/21/health-reform-breaks-bad-the-deceptions-and-disasters-of-obamacare/ disaster which is Obamacare] and the hyperactively out-of-control [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Us_debt US debt] have left me wondering just how long the USA will remain a power in the world. I’ve said it many, many times before, but I’ll repeat my call for all Jews in America to get out while it’s still possible, and to come home to the Land. As I mentioned in my [http://ronware.org/devar/hayeisarah5774.pdf ''devar-torah''] this week: if you rely on America, you are leaning on a broken-reed.

We are looking forward, once again, to a wonderfully pleasant ''shabbat''. The weather will be mild and cool. One of Sarah’s friends will be staying with us, and one of the families from our ''shul'' will be joining us for lunch.

The menu this week includes:
<br>
fresh homemade ḥallot,
vichyssoise,
Asian coleslaw,
green-rice salad,
beet salad,
kohlrabi salad,
''ḥumus'',
roasted chicken,
roasted sweet-potatoes,
zucchini ''kugel'',
sweet and sour meatballs,
lentil stew,
sorbet
and [[Recipes/Maxine's Carrot Cake|Maxine’s carrot cake (lighter version)]].

Until next week,<br>
''shabbat shalom''!
