Here we hear Moses our teacher, of blessed memory, at the beginning of his path to greatness. As you will recall, he was '''extremely humble''' {{hcite|p/pt/pt0412.htm#3|Num 12:3}}. He was a person who did not believe in himself, nor pretend to be something greater than what he was. This is a good quality, but only if it is present in the correct amount.

It had already been told to Moses '''Now therefore go, and I will be with thy mouth, and teach thee what thou shalt speak''' {{hcite|p/pt/pt0204.htm#12|Ex 4:12}}. He, may He be blessed, told Moses that he had nothing to worry about -- since every word spoken to Pharaoh would be from God, and Moses would be God's emissary. And since the words were coming from God, there was no place for concern lest the mission fail -- rather '''and the LORD was with Joseph, and he was a prosperous man''' {{hcite|p/pt/pt0139.htm#2|Gen 39:}}. That is, any step taken in the direction God intended will, in the end, be successful.

Moses at this point in the portion had not yet begun his mission, and he didn't yet believe in it. He still saw himself as powerless, a stutterer to whom no attention would be paid. He had not yet taken to heart that which God told him: '''And the LORD said unto him: 'Who hath made man's mouth? or who maketh a man dumb, or deaf, or seeing, or blind? is it not I the LORD?''' {{hcite|p/pt/pt0204.htm#11|Ex 4:11}}. He, may He be blessed, told him that his success was not dependent on his own powers, but rather only on God's power.
