Happy birthday to Mom, who’s just celebrated her ''94th''! She’s officially left the category of “elderly” and moved on to “ancient”!

Since her (Gregorian calendar) birthday fell out on the fast of the 17th of ''Tammuz'', we watched her eat a birthday cupcake. At least it didn’t fall on 9th ''Av''! She’s in good enough condition that I wouldn’t be surprised if she has another 20 years in her. Picking the right ancestors for their good genes is important!

I really was wondering just how 2020 was going to out-do itself. Really, it’s been quite the year so far! Well wonder no longer: [https://reason.com/2020/07/05/kanye-west-tweets-that-hes-running-for-president/ President Kanye West], anyone? Or perhaps this insightful article from “The Guardian” [https://www.theguardian.com/artanddesign/2020/jul/06/upward-thrusting-buildings-ejaculating-cities-sexist-leslie-kern-phallic-feminist-city-toxic-masculinity about sexist architecture]? Or perhaps, this article pondering whether or not [http://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/283222 Alexander Hamilton] was, in fact, Jewish (hint: even if the suppositions were all true, he wouldn’t have been ''halakhically'' Jewish — and anyway, who actually cares)?

These nuggets aren’t by any means the most ridiculous things I encountered just this week; but they’re probably the least offensive to normal people. Think on that, my friends.

In more important news: our gardener came this week. He looked at what I had done in the garden, and yelled at me. He larned me what I should have done, and what I needed yet to do. Suitably abashed, I went to an actual garden-stuff-store and got real garden-stuff-supplies and hooked it all up as per said gardener’s instructions. Lo and behold! it works like a champ. Who knew the gardener would know about gardening stuff?

You’re never too old to get scolded!

In other important news: we went to a local store to get potables for ''shabbat''. While we were checking-out, the guy behind the counter said to me, “What’s your accent? You’re certainly not Ashkenazi!”. Me. Quite possibly the person with the lightest skin in a 20km radius. It was the nicest thing anyone had said to me all week!

I do tend to confuse Israelis. My accent is ''almost'' native Israeli but not quite; so they think I was probably born here but lived outside the country for some number of years. Rarely do they suspect I’m ‘Murican. And since I pronounce the “hard” letters properly (the ‘ע’ and ‘ח’ at least, and sometimes ‘ר’ when I remember), they tend to wonder if, despite my [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Albedo high albedo], I might nevertheless have non-Ashkenazi ancestry. Heh.

I’m still waiting for a bug-fix from the guy I mentioned last week. He was still floating on the high-sea as of mid-week, which means I have to wait until he anchors or drowns. The former, preferably…

The weather is the same as it was last week, as I mentioned it would be, last week.

This ''shabbat'' we’ll make our feasting efforts on:
homemade ''ḥalla'',
“spicy” ribs,
[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chraime ''chraime''],
various ''salatim'',
probably other things as well,
and birthday cupcakes.

Until next time,<br>
''shabbat shalom''!
