* 1 packet baking powder&lt;br /&gt;

Preheat oven to 180C (350F).  &lt;br /&gt;

Put water to boil, in the meantime chop and pit the dates.  Put the dates in a Pyrex mixing bowl and pour the boiling water over them.  Add the brown sugar, and let sit until warm.  Add the oil, vanilla, rum and half the flour -- stir until uniform.  Add the egg, baking powder, nuts and remainder flour and mix until uniform.&lt;br /&gt;
