You’ve probably heard that Passover (pesaḥ) is a Big Deal. Therefore, Esther and I spent a good part of this week preparing the house (especially the kitchen). We corralled the non-pesaḥ food items into one spot; we’ll get rid of them completely in a short while.

We made a few shopping trips to lay in supplies, since we try to not purchase anything during the week of “intermediate days” of the holiday. Half the country has the same idea, though; so shopping is not as enjoyable an experience (as it never is, for me).

But we got our situation straightened out, and we’re looking forward to an enjoyable pesaḥ week. We’ll probably do some touristy things with my mom.

However, time is short and there is much to do yet; so I’ll sign off for today and get back to you next Thursday (Friday is yom-tov next week, so it’ll have to be Thursday).

We’ve several guests for the seder, including Sarah. They and we will have:
homemade whole-wheat soft matza, commercial hand-made round matza, machine-made square matza, wine (at least four cups), the usual seder-plate vegetables, Sephardi-style ḥaroset, Ashkenazi-style ḥaroset, homemade white horseradish, homemade red horseradish, veggie matza-ball soup, baked brisket, baked chicken, roasted beets, leek patties, potato kugel, tzimmes, rice, bamia in tomato sauce, and desserts.

Until next time,
shabbat shalom and ḥag pesaḥ sameaḥ!
