Well boy, howdy! We had record breaking rainfall here in The Land. It was very cold and wet most of this week, and the Kinneret (Sea of Galilee) rose a third of a meter (about a foot), which is a lot of water.

My birthday happened, as it does from year to year. This time it coincided with the fast of the 10th of Tevet; which, though a minor fast, is still a fast. Nevertheless, Esther prepared my favorite chocolate layer cake with raspberry filling, and we invited a few friends over after the fast to partake thereof. A congenial crowdlet, even Mom enjoyed the “party”.

For those of you who weren’t aware: I get my anti-social tendencies from Mom. Dad ז״ל was a very social person, while Mom is very anti-social. I, and my daughters as well, are mostly anti-social. I know, I know! You’re saying, “but you’re such a nice guy!”. Well, I’ll admit I put on a good act, but you don’t see the seething interior, bless your hearts!

We wrapped things up by “dining out” with Sarah and Yarin, at the Tel-Aviv pier. In the rain. Where I neglected to bring an umbrella for Mom. But she forgives me. I think.

From around the globe:

I spent a couple days preparing a “quote” for a potential client. Now it’s wait and see if the client is prepared to pay my (very) reasonable fees. I’m also trying to get a quote from mongoDB for a commercial license (for this client), and they are surprisingly reluctant to give me a straight answer. Not good.

I spent the remainder of the week on converting to Nuklear power. I gotta’ say, it’s an amazingly versatile library, and much more well-suited to 8th than the JUCE library I have been using for the past 6+ years. Has it been that long? Yes, yes it has!

Esther’s been enjoying her woman-cave, though I’ve been informed that “knitting-nook” is more appropriate. So: she’s been utilizing the knitting-nook, and I’m considering whether or not to adopt Amazon’s warehousing technology. That may be insufficient.

The weather’s still cold (high of 10C/50F), and it’s supposed to stay cold and windy for the next several days at least, but no rain in the immediate forecast, after this morning.

This shabbat we’re back to basics:
homemade ḥalla, carrot-ginger soup, slow-cooker lentil soup, baked chicken, roasted vegetables, various salatim, and remnants of birthday cake.

Until next time,
shabbat shalom!
