Lots of stuff this week!
We’re apparently going to have another election here in the Land; the gov’t has voted to disband (not final yet), so sometime soon we’ll be voting for the fourth time in two years. My prediction: Bibi will win yet again; his opponents are disorganized tyros.
As disappointing as that news is, on the bright side we’ll be receiving COVID vaccines in a matter of weeks. First in line to receive them are the health-workers and the institutionalized (esp. elderly). Next up anyone elderly, then people “at elevated risk”. Finally, the rest of the population. We might be immunized by February if all goes according to plan. I’ll be honest: I’m not excited about a vaccine that’s been rushed out for a disease with a 99.8% survival rate.
I made the final release of “8th” for 2020 early this week and so far, so good. I’m now switching development of 8th to “as needed/in support of”, and focusing instead on my other projects. So in order to support one of those projects, I’m making “GUI layout” easier so that I can get the layout I want without cracking my head open. I did want to add “constraint-layout” to the GUI, but that seems to be beyond what the Nuklear library can handle. So I’ll have to come up with something simpler, probably a “relative-layout” system.
I also made another seeded sourdough-rye bread — and (not to brag, or anything) I must say: it was really excellent!
Various and sundry:
- The Washington Post says, “Former Vice President Joe Biden will make history by having a female-led communications team in the White House”; ignoring that Trump has that right now. So much journalizing!
- Candace Owens challenged PolitiFact and won once she involved lawyers. Check your facts, fact checkers!
- Why the 2020 election is deeply puzzling: not just to “cranks”.
- An impressive iPhone exploit which doesn’t require any user interaction.
My genealogical researches coupled with Y-DNA information are starting to bear some fruit. I just got some information which, if verified, could help lead to my (anonymous) paternal grandfather’s lineage. I’ll let you know if anything really interesting is uncovered. Watch this space!
The weather’s been very tame: cool with very occasional showers. We might have some drizzle on shabbat, and no rain is forecast for the upcoming week.
This time around we’ll have:
homemade ḥalla,
sweet-potato soup,
stuffed veggies,
roasted beets,
broccoli salad,
various salatim,
and mystery dessert.
Until next time,
shabbat shalom!
