An interesting week. As my faithful readers are aware, last Thu I had severe pain in my side. Went to the doctor, who ordered blood tests and an ultrasound. The blood test came back with very high "creatinine", meaning something bad w/ the kidneys, as well as indicators of inflammation etc.

Since I already had a gastroenterologist appt this week, I figured I'd just see him and then my GP (I have an appt for her this coming Sunday). The gastro took a look at the labs and said, "you have to see a nephrologist, today!". But he admitted that I looked much better than he'd expect someone in renal failure to look, so he ordered another set of labs and said that if the numbers didn't improve I should go to the ER directly (and he gave me a referral for that). He also urged me to make an appt with a nephrologist ASAP, which we managed to do, or so we thought.

We went that afternoon to see the nephrologist, but he had already left for the day. So while that was a waste, I do have an appt in two weeks.

Did the extra labs the Dr ordered, and the numbers improved, so I didn’t have to go to the ER. The US results showed… nothing very interesting. No "signs of stones", which is what I had assumed was happening. So at the moment I've no idea what happened, and have to rely on my GP to figure it out on Sunday.

The good news is I feel reasonably fine as of this morning, for the first time in a week. I was getting very tense about spending the yamim tovim in the hospital!

Other stuff:

Between grunts and groans, I managed to make a new release of 8th. We also got the office chairs we’d ordered a couple weeks back; and they’re much nicer to sit in than our previous ones. Other than that, I’m afraid, I accomplished nothing of value this week. Esther managed to practice saying, “Are you OK?!?”. We’re a bit tired.

The weather for shabbat will be fine, but we’re looking at a short heat-wave specifically aimed at rosh hashana. I blame the Houthis!

This shabbat, we’re doing simple, since next week is rosh hashana. We’ll have (at least):
homemade ḥalla, chicken and rice, various salatim, and chocolate chip cookies.

Until next time,
shabbat shalom and shanah ṭovah!
