It’s been another busy week! We started off going to the range, where we both acquitted ourselves very well. I did more garden-prep. We ordered and received new phones (the next day!) and spent two days making sure all our stuff got properly transferred over (why is it still such a hit-and-miss process?). Then, I picked up my new glasses from the place I mentioned last week. And in Manly Endeavors, I built a “Hanukkah Candle Enclosure” (hereafter “HCE”; basically, an aquarium for the candles. A “Hanuquarium”, if you will.).

We’d been thinking about getting an HCE not only for Hanukkah, but also for shabbat Sukkot, when we light candles outside. The HCEs we’d seen were either too small for our ḥanukkiyot (”menorahs”), too full of frippery, or huge; and they were all rather expensive. So being the Notorious Scrounger I’m known to be, I pondered the various glass sheets I had lying about (as one might), and thought, “I could make my own HCE for free!”

And thus was born a new Quest.

In a bit more than an hour, I’d scrounged up the bits I needed, trimmed to size, and assembled. For free, my friends, for free! I reiterate my stance that it is always wise to hang on to old crap, because you never know when polishing it up and repurposing it will be useful and save you those sweet, sweet, $$$.

Veryous and Sundered:

I don’t know whether the long stretch of unseasonably hot weather here is simply “natural variation”, or due to “man-made causes”, or perhaps some other reason we haven’t determined. What I do know is that our Sages ob”m told us that when “things happen”, we’re instructed to do careful introspection of our own deeds and correct any missteps we may have taken. Each of us contributes to the overall welfare, and thus each of us must take what steps we can to improve our lot — most especially here in the Land.

While the weather has been rather warmer than usual for the season, it’s not been uncomfortable. Our A/C appreciates the vacation. For shabbat it will continue warmer than usual, with some cooling (perhaps) beginning of the week.

We’ve got no guests this shabbat! Our simple fare will consist of:
homemade ḥalla, vegetable soup, chicken schnitzel, mashed potatoes, roast vegetables, various salatim, and chocolate cake.

Until next time,
shabbat shalom!
