English
And he had possessions of flocks, and possessions of herds, and a great household; and the Philistines envied him (Gen 26:14)
Of this, Solomon in his wisdom stated: That which hath been is that which shall be, and that which hath been done is that which shall be done; and there is nothing new under the sun (Ecc 1:9). What did the Philistines envy him for? For his success. He descended to dwell in Gerar -- just he, his men and his household. And with the passage of time, the man waxed great (Gen 26:13). Not only did he succeed in his business endeavors, but his wife was fair to look upon, and Avimelech was unable to take her away.
