Home at last! Don’t get me wrong: we thoroughly enjoyed our time with the Grands and our kids et fam., but it’s always nice to get back to the Land (and our own beds and bathrooms).

Last weekend we “enjoyed” a significant snowfall, though the Grands enjoyed it much more, creating (with their father’s help) a gigantic snowman. We demurred, instead taking on Jojo (and his siblings) in many, many (!) rounds of “Taco vs. Burrito” — a game which, if I never see it again, will be too soon. Jojo, it turns out, counts cards; make of that what you will.

Suddenly this past shabbat, my jaw (TMJ) acted up, and I couldn’t chew. I’ve tried various remedies to little effect. Every time I think it’s OK, it reaches out and gets uppity. Not great.

The return flight was unremarkable (though it was quicker by an hour than scheduled), but we were completely wiped out when we got back. I had ear pain, was congested, and couldn’t sleep. The following morning saw both of us moving like disintegrating zombies, and using up tissues at an alarming rate.

Various and sundry:

Upon our return we found that our shabbat “water bar” wouldn’t turn on. I diagnosed it in hopes I might be able to fix it, but alas! the power supply was shot. So we’ve had to get a new machine, and hopefully a technician will be able to hook it up soon. In the meantime, we got a small pump-urn to tide us over until then.

On the other hand, the solar “trickle-charger” I hooked up to keep our car’s battery afloat worked brilliantly, even though the weather this past several weeks was not so brilliant, and we were concerned it might not be able to keep the battery topped-off. So all’s well, that ends well.

The weather for us here in the Land this shabbat is “partly cloudy” with highs in the mid-teens (°C). Hopefully, the TMJ will allow me to enjoy our meals!

This shabbat we’ve been invited out for a meal; for the rest:
homemade ḥalla, rice, chili, various salatim, and banana cake.

Until next time,
shabbat shalom!
