Question: I have heard Israel suffers the equivalent of the 9/11 attacks on the USA, every few years. Is that true?
Answer: It is difficult to compare a unique event such as the attacks on the World Trade Center with the ongoing terror war being waged against Israel, but it is possible to compare numbers of fatalities due to terrorism.
The US lost 2,974 people on 9/11/2001, out of a population (2001 est) of about 278,000,000. Israel's population (2001 est) was 6,000,000 (Including Arabs), or about 2.16% of the US population. So an equivalent number would be roughly 64 Israelis.
According to the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs , there were 542 Israeli victims of terrorism between 2000 and 2007, or almost 68 per year on average. Therefore, between 2000 and 2007 Israel had somewhat more than the equivalent of a "9/11" every year.
