June 16th
We had a busy, but not (personally) very eventful week. The world, on the other hand…
I won’t dwell on the many unhappy events of the past week worldwide. However, it is worthwhile mentioning the NY Times’ shameful editorial. Read and weep.
Cheer up, because I made a major release of 8th, the culmination of a month and a half of development. I was gratified to get quite a few compliments and kudos from my users (and from people who aren’t yet users). The battle for world-dominance slogs on.
Apparently, developers who use spaces rather than tabs make more money. Couldn’t prove it by me.
I also spent quite a bit of time sending out emails and spamming LinkedIn to make contacts and to try to get new clients. I did find a number of interested parties, so that’s good. The most interesting and unusual one was a guy who said, “There’s a chance we can do business, if you can get me a contact with the Mossad”. I didn’t have the heart to tell him that I’m an undercover Mossad agent, and that very soon he’ll get that “contact”. Probably in the dead of night.
Then there was the one who wanted to set up a phone call with me. He set it up for 4pm... PDT, which is 2am my time. I asked if we could reschedule for 9am his time, and he agreed. The day comes and no call. I send an email asking if they’re there. After a couple hours I get a response that, “I didn’t know you meant 9am my time. Nobody’s here until 10am”. Despite my saying, specifically, “your time”, he didn’t know I meant “his time”. People don’t read.
And then, there was the one who also set up a phone call, but didn’t answer the phone because of technical issues. When we finally did get in touch, he asked me about my background. I said to him, “I’m sure you’ve seen my site already, but…”. To which he responded, “oh, no, I didn’t; I just read your intro email”. The email which had links in it to my site, my “satisfied customers”, etc.
People don’t read. And when they do, they fail basic comprehension. Sad!
You have undoubtedly heard, and may believe, that Israel is the USA’s biggest recipient of military aid. However, even ignoring the fact that the majority of that “aid” is spent back in the USA, it simply isn’t true. Nevertheless, as I’ve said many times, I wish we would stop taking any USA’n aid. That’s not likely to happen, but one can dream.
Perhaps our leaders should be immortalized in the Museum of Failure?
Sarah’s spending shabbat in Tel-Aviv. She’s itching to move out, and has an apartment or two to look at today. We wish her luck in her search for alternate accommodations!
Daniela’s itching for her summer vacation to begin. Ah, the life of a teacher!
Esther’s itching to get back to her knitting.
And I, your humble servant, am itching to have breakfast.
The weather is turning “basic summer-pattern normal”: hot days, cool nights; and it’s supposed to stay that way, more or less.
Back to the basic two, this week. Esther and I will enjoy:
homemade ḥalla,
baked salmon,
roast beef,
roasted veggies,
rice,
various salatim,
fruit,
and banana cake.
Until next time,
shabbat shalom!
