May 18th

Esther left for the USA this week, to spend the next many weeks with Daniela and Jeremy. Mom and I will be heading there sometime soon as well, time TBD.

So Mom and I are alone for this long shabbat and shavuot holiday. I hope she can handle being alone with me, on shabbat mode, for such a long time!

Her shipment of personal goods arrived from the USA, so we spent a couple days unpacking and rearranging things. The house is still not settled down, but at least I’ve managed to hack out a quiet space in the salon for shabbat. And now Mom has some summer clothing, just in time!

As part of getting ready for the long weekend, I’m preparing some home-made ice-cream, as well as lasagna and some other small dishes. Esther left us with some main-course meals in the freezer, so that will save me the effort (not that I mind, but she’s a better cook than I am, everyone agrees).

I’m also drying my sourdough starter so I can bring Daniela some of it, and so that it will be “ready to go” when we return.

It’s been a busy week. And I have to get busy…

The weather’s been hot, and will stay hot until the end of the coming week. So A/C is going to be part of our shabbat plans. It should get up to 38C or higher here, tomorrow.

This week it’s just Mom and I. For shabbat and shavuot, we’ll have:
wine!, ḥalla, pitot, meatballs with potatoes, baked salmon, lasagna, salsa fresca, roasted eggplant, blasted peppers, various salatim, "Lara" bars, and home-made ice-cream.

Until next time,
shabbat shalom and ḥag sameaḥ!
