Hi again!
It was a busy and somewhat stressful week. We took Daniela to the airport so she could return to NYC to finish school. Sarah went to Tel Aviv for two days for an introduction to her "National Service". We got our shipment of building material, moved it to the back and commenced building operations. Started preparations for the Holidays.
Daniela made it back safely, B"H, to NYC and has resumed her studies. We're hopeful she'll be able to finish them this year. Sarah will be starting "National Service" next week, but this week she had to go to an orientation session where she was given the rules, and had to sign a contract. First step to the "real world"...
We received the building materials we had ordered last week, and Esther and I transported them by hand from the front of the house (where they dropped the stuff off) to the back of the house (where the BBQ is to be built). Not a large supply of materials, by contractors' standards -- but about a (metric) ton of building blocks, cement and gravel and sand. Afterwards we dug ditches for the footers and today I poured the concrete. Next week, B"H, I'll start building the walls of the BBQ.
What else? We made our High Holiday hosting plans. In the "old country" we would plan things out at least a month in advance, more often closer to two -- so we were concerned that making plans with only two weeks' notice would mean all our potential guest would already have made other plans. But this is Israel, the Holy Land! Miracles still occur: everyone we invited, accepted. So then we decided we better order the food, and now we've taken care of that as well! We are now looking forward to a peaceful and pleasant "holiday season", and still holding out hope the BBQ will be ready for Sukkot.
Esther and I are really tired from all our activities this week, so I'm going to post the blog now and finish up getting ready for shabbat. Hope you don't mind too much!
Since we're invited out for dinner this week, the menu is more modest. This shabbat it will be: chicken-in-a-pot, homemade Hummous, veggie egg-rolls, cabbage salad, Chinese noodle salad, eggplant, banana cake, zucchini-potato kugel, sweet and spicy red-beans (recipe to be posted next week, B"H, if they were well received).
Until next week,
Shabbat shalom !
