Happy tax day! We had a cool and rainy week (even here on the edge of the Judean Desert). It was below average for the season, but that’s being rectified as I write this, and the temperatures will be above average, though pleasant, into the coming week. So it looks like we’ll have a warm and dry pesaḥ. Now we just need to finish preparing for the holiday.
Sarah’s working on editing one of her classmate’s films. But the raw footage was done in super-high resolution, which none of their computers could even display to its best advantage. Because the footage was in such high resolution, it took up a huge amount of disk space — and though she’s got a large-capacity disk, it wasn’t truly big enough. So she had to work out a way to convert the huge files into smaller ones she could work with, and that conversion took a lot of effort and time. Now she’s got the files in a format she can work with, and the actual work lies ahead.
I finished the job I had been working on, and got paid for it (yeah!). Now that client wants me to continue working on another portion of her project, but needs to ask her client if he wants me to do the work. I’m quite certain he’ll agree, so at least there’s some current work going on, which keeps me out of trouble.
In the meantime, I sent out a lot of “cold-call” emails this week, looking for clients. So far the response has not been exceptional, but that’s to be expected. It’s a numbers game, just have to keep sending out inquiries and churning the pool.
I’ve also been fixing bugs and making improvements to “8th”, and will make another release next week to satisfy my customers and so I don’t have to worry about it over the Passover holiday week.
Various and sundry:
- This is why politicians should not meddle in areas they have no clue about. Which is most things, I suppose.
- Another free Office replacement which apparently has better compatibility with MS Word.
- Amazing technological breakthrough for super-high-density data storage. Not practical just yet, however.
- This explains Trump’s power. The power of the Dark Side?
Preparing for pesaḥ isn’t as onerous as people make it out to be, but it still is pretty involved. We’ve got most of our supplies in, but still need to hit the shuq next week for fresh veggies and other perishables. Esther’s been cleaning the kitchen (more like getting it straightened out), and I’ll be handling the heavy cleaning work next week. Nothing different from any other year, really.
Just us this shabbat. Pesaḥ is coming, so it’s a “freezer shabbat” this week. We’ll serve up:
chicken-loaf,
roast beef,
chard pashtida,
salatim,
and Judean dessert.
Until next time,
shabbat shalom!
