Nothing exciting to report this week. Esther’s finally done with the crazy tax-deadline work, but I’ve been very busy with my clients’ work.

I did make a new release of 8th. This time the performance was improved pretty drastically, so that makes my users happy.

As I mentioned last week, one of my clients’ projects has to do with “image classification”. So I’ve had to learn some theory, but since I’m implementing their “POC” (proof-of-concept), I have to understand how the code I’m using works. It would be much easier if the code was written in a more logical manner; it isn’t, so I have to almost debug it to get a handle on it.

Doing that, however, gives me an appreciation for some very cool technology. I’m doodling around in 8th working on a parallel implementation of some of the tech, so I can understand it better (and perhaps incorporate those algorithms). More on this at a later date…

I used to subscribe to “Scientific American”. I fondly remember reading it decades ago, when it contained, you know, science? Now for the past decade or so, it’s become a “social justice” rag. So disappointing!

We finally got our first real rain last night; it turned from hot and dusty to cool and windy to cold and wet in the space of just a few hours. But alas! the main body of rain is over for now. Nevertheless, we’ll have cool Autumn weather for the next week.

This shabbat we’ve got:
homemade ḥalla, butternut-squash soup, baked chicken, baked tuberous vegetables, various salatim, and nut clusters.

Until next time,
shabbat shalom!
