Hi, again!
Not a lot to say this week; I’ve been working my fingers to the bone, and B”H have been making continual progress. The weather has been very hot. August, you know? And my lovely wife has been having a good time (I hope!) along with the rest of my family in Argentina. But don’t cry for me.
The matsav (“situation”, a particularly Israeli expression referring to “everything going on right now in Israel”) is tense. A cease-fire was broken by the Ḥamas (of course), and supposedly another cease-fire is in effect. The Gazans are tentatively and carefully (very carefully) voicing their displeasure with Ḥamas – but until they have “elections” and toss the tossers out or manage to depose them, Ḥamas is still in charge.
The United States of America seems to be in a state of emotional conflict. On the one hand, the US populace by and large is very supportive of Israel (presumably, by a 3-to-1 margin). And yet they have (twice) selected the O’Bummer as their President. He is a man who has shown himself — despite his protestations to the contrary — to be the opposite of supportive of us. I’ll just present two representative vignettes from this week:
- Some of the US Postal Service offices are refusing to send mail to Israel
- That’s not really surprising, given that the “most pro-Israel administration ever” just blocked a missile shipment to Israel. An already approved shipment, but when you “have our back” (in your sights), what difference, at this point, does it make?
It’s supposed to cool down a bit for shabbat. That’s a welcome change, since the heat with the added humidity has been pretty muggy. And this coming week, I’ll go to the airport to pick up my wandering family members. That’s going to be the absolute high-point of my week!
Again, it’s just me this week . A friend invited me for the shabbat day meal, but for the rest I’ve decided to get in touch with my roots, or something:
Moroccan saffron chicken with red-rice,
lemon olives,
potato salad with gribenes,
egg salad,
guacamole,
tuna salad,
and chocolate
Until next week,
shabbat shalom!
