Hi, again!

Sarah did actually, literally, nothing this week (that was a first-hand report). The rest of us went to work and tried to avoid insanity (with varying levels of success). Had (almost) all our doors painted. Updated the translation of the "Introduction" to the Mishne Torah.

First an actual news update. You in the Exile probably haven't heard much about yesterday's attack on a school bus, perpetrated by Hamas. The "freedom fighters" fired an anti-tank missile at a bright yellow school bus. Thank God, most of the children had departed the bus only minutes before; but one boy (apparently 16, not 13 as reported elsewhere) was seriously injured and is still in serious condition. The bus driver was also injured. Apparently the IDF is responding, but we don't know just now what the ultimate response will be. The best news to come out of this incident is that the new Iron Dome anti-missle system intercepted two incoming missiles.

I suppose I'm a malcontent, but I see no reason why we should live in fear and have to deploy anti-missile batteries around our major cities. I think our enemies should live in fear -- imminent and overwhelming fear. But as long as our leaders have no cojones, that's not going to happen.

When we moved into this house, we had some pretty comprehensive work done -- the floors, electricity, plumbing were all replaced. But we didn't change the doors, despite their being pretty ugly. So we just had a painter come and paint all the internal doors (but one), and it really does look much better. Now we need to go and replace the door handles, which are a random collection of ugliness.

I've incorporated the various bits of feedback I've received into the translation of the M"T. So the new edition has some inconsistencies and errors fixed, hopefully there are no others to be found! Please inform me if you find other problems, thank you!

Around the whirled peas:

Guests this week! Sarah's friend and a bonus friend, will be staying with us. And my ḥevrutha and his daughter will be joining us for lunch. This time around: shallot sautéed tuna steaks1, ḥummus, matbouḥa, avocado salad, various and sundry salatim, beet salad, vegetable-barley soup, baked chicken, "chicken" stir-fry, Chinese noodles, Chinese eggplant, rice, "meatballs", teriyaki pargiot, salchichas, zucchini kugel, cookies, pumpkin biscotti.

Until next week,
shabbat shalom!
