It was a short week, due to the shavuʿoth holiday falling on Sunday. The holiday was quiet and pleasant, no complaints there!
Because it was a short week, and because we still need to get things ready for the impending Visit of the Grands, we were incredibly busy the remaining days of the week. I know, that refrain is becoming tiresome, but what can we do?
Among other things, we made a trip to IKEA in order to get “a few things” Esther had seen in their catalog and which she thought we might need for said upcoming visit. We ended up getting twice as many things, for twice as much money. Is that considered 100% inflation? Regardless, she more or less finalized the “kids’ room”, to the inaudible plaudits of our children. So that’s one more item crossed off the TODO list.
In my world, the contractor I had mentioned previously pulled more of the same disappearing act. Unamused, I informed my client that I couldn’t work like this, and that the contractor was jeopardizing the project. He concurred, released the contractor, and now I’ve got my tasks as well as the contractor’s. All in all, a good result, since I know what I’m doing and understand things without excessive repetitions, even though the schedule will slip a bit.
I’ve mentioned in the past that my car has a bloody weak battery, and that I’ve had to replace it several times in the past few years. This week it was dead, again, even though I had just replaced it and had also plugged in a solar trickle-charger. What I eventually noticed was that the “radio” seemed active when the trickle-charger was working. Given that the radio has never worked, and in fact has become progressively worse with time, I completely disconnected it this week (on the theory that it’s the main thing draining the battery). I don’t know if that’s true, so I’ve also contacted a car-electrician to check things out (next week, B”H). Very irritating, because apart from the ludicrous flattening batteries, I like the car.
I’m a fan of Matt Walsh’s dry, sarcastic humor. So when he announced the release of his movie “What is a Woman?”, I was looking forward to viewing it. Unfortunately, it is only available by subscription, so I went ahead and took out a subscription to the “Daily Wire” mainly so I could view the film… and I wasn’t disappointed. Here’s one review for your perusal. I really do recommend the movie, it’s humorous and alarming at the same time.
Today, after breakfast, I’ll spend a couple hours working outside trying to clean up. The “sabbatical-year” growth threatens to take down the house and anyone attempting to walk through the garden, so I’m thinking it’s time to prudently prune. Wish me luck!
The weather was pleasant this week, but we’re looking at a very strong heat-wave today and for shabbat. Grrr! Fortunately, the weather will turn pleasant again for the upcoming week.
For shabbat we’re planning on:
home-made ḥalla,
spicy chicken,
baked yams,
baked salmon,
various salatim,
watermelon,
and brownies.
Until next time,
shabbat shalom!
