The intermediate days of sukkoth were enjoyable. We didn’t have guests, but were invited out one evening. Our part of the Land was quiet, though the northern areas were anything but. We were of course quite glued to the news, awaiting our “imminent” retribution on Iranian missile attacks. Crickets.
Then the final holiday of the season, shemini ʿaṣereth, came and we were forcefully reminded that it was the “yahrzeit” of the October 7th attacks. So – not least for me – it was a difficult holiday to appreciate correctly. But as our history shows, we carry on, and our enemies lie in the dust. May it ever be so!
Of possible interest:
- Our “staunch allies”, the USA, leaked intelligence documents regarding Israel’s attack plans, to Iran. If you support anyone in the current US administration, you surely need to reconsider.
- Of course, we have enemies within. This isn’t the first batch, and we urgently need to implement the death-penalty which is already on the books, but never used.
- The stalwart Col. Kemp on Israel, Iran, and the Middle East proxy wars.
- The Harris campaign creates “Kamala Shabbat” dinners. I wish I were joking.
- On Yahya Sinwar: Death of a Deluded Man.
- The BBC makes Hezbollah propaganda.
- A budding climate scientist posts a series of questions which beg answers.
- Shining light on photodiodes!
We’re done with the seasonal holidays, so back to “normal”. I need to pack up the sukkah (well, the “schach” – roofing material, anyway). Lots of laundry to do, but that will wait till after shabbat.
I did make a new release of 8th this week, because the backlog of fixed bugs was getting too large. That was the only “work” I did, and it wasn’t much work at that.
The weather was very pleasant, possibly the most pleasant we’ve ever had over sukkoth! However, we hit record-low relative-humidity: 2% inside the house, without A/C or heating on! The coming days will see a rise in temperatures, but nothing drastic.
This shabbat we’ll dine upon:
chicken with mushrooms and rice,
sautéed bok-choy,
roasted vegetables,
various salatim,
and brownies.
Until next time,
shabbat shalom!
