As I mentioned last week, our main A/C died; so first thing this week we went to the local electric-goods store and purchased a new one. Of course, the price only included the machinery itself and delivery to our home; it did not include installation. So this coming Sunday the installer is coming to (hopefully) set things right. Perhaps he’ll even bring his own tools! One can hope…

Our friends have been in the throws of moving for some time now, and this past week moved into their new abode. Based on what they’ve gone through, however, I’m even less enthusiastic about moving than I was before. Better the troubles you’ve got, than the ones you’re about to borrow!

Wonders of the world:

This week I spent significant time working on getting 8th running on iOS (the iPhone/iPad OS). It used to work, but it’s been a very long time since I tried to make an iOS app. First battle: getting the “packaging” correct to submit a program to the Apple Store.

That solved, it turns out Apple changed a lot of things, so that what used to work no longer does. I’m still trying to figure out why the same display code that works on Android and other systems doesn’t work on iOS (which uses nominally the same technology).

Besides which, the test device I’ve got cannot be used, any longer, to test iOS stuff, because Apple just wants all of us to spend lots of money on new hardware. So I’m being forced to do that, against every fiber of my being.

The good news is that I hope to release the last version of 8th for 2024 this coming week, with proper iOS support. insha’allah!

Our weather has been cold-ish, but not super cold yet. Except in the house, where we’re quite cold. Fortunately, the A/C should be functioning again on Sunday. insha’allah!

This shabbat it’s just the two of us, as far as I know. We’ll have: veggie soup, pargiot, roasted veg, various salatim, and cookies.

Until next time,
shabbat shalom!
