Hi, again!
Well boy, howdy! You just can't rely on some people, know what I mean?
Our company's CEO returned from his extended tour a week ago. The agreement I had reached with my boss was that he would talk to the CEO about my situation on Sunday. By the end of the day Sunday, the CEO had not called me in, and there was no sign anything had happened, so I asked my boss what was going on. He had apparently arranged with the vice-CEO to talk to the CEO, but the man hadn't. To make a long story short, it wasn't until this past Thursday that the vice-CEO was finally convinced to confront the CEO with my story. Mind you, I had originally broached the subject with my boss three weeks ago! However, I haven't yet had a communication from on high. I'll give him until this coming Sunday to respond, though I am 99% certain the response will be negative. Nevertheless, I'll give him a chance to save his soul.
Esther continued the MATI business course. It's starting to get a bit more interesting, since some of the material is new to her. This last lesson, for instance, had to do with marketing and placement... things that she and I know about, but only in generalities. So we hope to incorporate this newfound knowledge into our business website to enhance our 'saleability'. Anyway, she has homework: to come up with a mission statement. Ugh.
I've made improvements and incorporated more of your feedback into my new site. It's still "under development", but I'm picking up the pace since "the end is nigh" for my current day-job. I do appreciate any feedback you care to give me on it.
Bits and pieces:
- In bad news for those of us concerned about privacy, Israel launches a new biometric database. It's voluntary for now...
- There is a rather alarming security hole in Android operating-systems
- Very cool new technology being developed will give extreme amounts of storage for archival purposes
- Tips from security gurus on how to safeguard your passwords
- They don't make 'em like they used to! Russian rocket explodes due to installation "issue"
You all know that the Land is praised for the seven species. Well this week we picked the first batch of figs from our tree, and Oh! My!!! Incredibly delicious. Now we need to come up with some dishes involving fresh figs, 'cause I don't think we can eat all of them.
My nephew Chris was so excited about his trip to Israel last summer that he decided to do whatever he could to make one this summer as well. So he got into some kind of yeshiva program (a short ten day program), and arrived just this week! He's in the holy city of Ṣefat, and once the program is done, he'll stay with us for two weeks. We're all looking forward to seeing his smiling face.
We lent our car to Sarah's classmate (since Sarah doesn't drive), so they could get to the locations picked out for Sarah's final first-year film. Prior to doing so, we arranged with our insurance company to expand our coverage to include the other driver ... for a grand total of 10 NIS (about $2.75). Good deal! Anyway, they traveled between Ofra and Jerusalem, and had to schlep cameras and other equipment as well as the actors. Sarah says the filming went very well, and she is pleased. B"H! We've got to wait a month for the edited product to become available for viewing. Thanks to all our friends who contributed their disturbingly large collections of ties for the effort.
Daniela has become quite a good hostess. She and Jeremy have been having guests for shabbat on a frequent basis, and Daniela is following in her mother's footsteps to make a home which is warm and welcoming to guests. She has always been a great dessert maker, but she's also becoming an accomplished chef as well. We are very proud of our girls!
And last but not least: happy birthday to my mother, who celebrated her 87th this week! May she continue with health and happiness until 120!
This shabbat we were once again invited out for dinner! So we are preparing for our 2nd and 3rd meals:
slow-cooked chicken,
corn on the cob,
salatim,
something else (to be determined...),
and brownies.
Until next week,
shabbat shalom!
