July 22nd (See this week's devar torah) | Comments or questions? Click here! |
This was a “family time” week. My father-in-law (FIL) spent shabbat with us, and a few days later my brother-in-law (BIL) and his family came. So we had a full house (and it will be that way for another week or so).
My BIL’s family came to celebrate their elder daughter’s “bat mitsva”, and to enjoy our amazing hospitality in the meantime. The celebration was held on Thursday, at the Jerusalem Archaeological Park, which is right next to the Western Wall. I’d never been there, and it was interesting to see the walls which had been covered until a few decades ago with trash. After the ceremony we went for lunch at Piccolino. It was Esther’s and my second time there, and for the second time we had excellent food and service. Two for two!
Sarah had the task of taking pictures of the “event”, and she turned them over to the BIL and FIL yesterday. I didn’t actually see them, though others said they were good pics.
My FIL had been enjoying himself, but seems to have come down with a cough (perhaps a cold). So we’re hoping that over shabbat he’ll feel better so he can enjoy his trip more. Update: I took him to the “urgent care” because his cough wasn’t going away. He’s fine, they gave him some drugs and he’ll recover, B”H.
Apparently, the Republican Party in the US has nominated Trump for POTUS. The party of Lincoln has sadly descended quite a long way. So now it definitely looks like the contest in November will be between Trump and Hillary — unless something happens, that is. What a dismal day for the USA.
The odd and unusual:
- Are LED lights longer-lived? Theoretically yes, but perhaps not in reality
- An “ax attack” injures people. Not the guy yelling “allahu akbar”
- Saudi Arabia says Pokémon is halal
- Sorry, Mom: no more VCRs
I tried to get work done this week, though it’s been a bit difficult with all the action going on in our house. Nevertheless, progress is being made on various things. We’re working on getting contracts, working on software fixes, working on improvements. Working.
This shabbat: besides my father-in-law, we have my brother-in-law, his wife, and their two girls. The eight of us will dine upon:
kippe,
grilled chicken breasts,
baked chicken,
roasted sweet potatoes,
green-beans with mushrooms,
zucchini quiche,
stir-fried vegetables with mushrooms,
rice,
salatim,
and ḥalvah.
Until next time,
shabbat shalom!
