Esther’s been working, putting in the hours in preparation for our upcoming trip. I have too, and this week we started our year-end sale of 8th.

At my eldest’s alma-mater, the students approved a BDS resolution. Jews are now considered extra-white, since “whiteness” is out of favor. The new darling of the far-Left (in the US), Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, pulls a Fauxahontas maneuver and claims Sephardic Jewish ancestry. She may very well hail from Sephardic Jews, but she’s made numerous anti-Israel and anti-Semitic statements.

In Illinois, an “independent board” voted to inform Airbnb that it violated state law when it decided to de-list Jewish listings in the areas of Judea and Samaria while keeping non-Jewish listings. This is the first concrete action taken against Airbnb since their ill-advised foray into BDS-land; it remains to be seen whether anything comes of it.

So, what’s this load of anti-Semitic crap all about? Why now?

CNN is apparently surprised by a poll showing strong anti-Arab sentiment among Israeli Jews. It might be because CNN doesn’t cover the ongoing terrorist actions perpetrated by Arabs against Jews, and unfortunately condoned by a large percentage of the Arab population here (and worldwide, in fact). I’m surprised by the poll as well: surprised that the numbers aren’t even higher, in light of current events.

I don’t claim to have any answers; at least, none I would state on the internet… but if our government doesn’t act soon, I’m pretty confident the situation will deteriorate beyond their ability to control. That won’t be good for anyone.

The banal and the bizarre:

  • America’s largest baking company drops kosher certification for most products. Maybe American Jews will start eating healthier foods, or <gasp> consider moving to their ancestral home?
  • Climate modeling illusions are not based in reality.
  • Why it would be a bad idea for Democrats to impeach Trump.
  • There are people working on various attempts at a non-gendered Hebrew. Really. Never mind that all Semitic languages are gendered (I wonder how that effort would play out in Saudi Arabia? Not well, I’d bet…).
  • PETA wants you to update your idioms to be animal-friendly. Yep. Among the examples: Instead of “Kill two birds with one stone,” try “Feed two birds with one scone.” It must be nice to only have “First World” problems.

Speaking of vegans, we went to a vegan restaurant in Tel Aviv for Sarah’s birthday (she’s not vegan, but it works for everyone). Happy birthday, Sarah! The appetizers were good, but I think I should have spent more time perusing the menu before ordering my plate. Anyway, we had a pleasant evening with the three of us, Sarah, and Yarin.

As I said before, we’re preparing for our trip to see the kids and grandkids. So far, I got some Bamba as per my daughter’s request. I think Esther’s doing things of a yarnly nature, but I’m not sure — she’s always yarnilizing. We can hardly wait!

It’s sunny and cold, and shabbat will be only a little bit warmer. Rain returns mid-week. For now we’re dry, and looking forward to a peaceful shabbat.

This time around the three of us will have:
ḥalla, mushroom-onion soup, baked chicken, lentil stew, various salatim, and brownies.

Until next time,
shabbat shalom!
