We’ve managed to experience the “Days of Awe” this year without incident (whether that’s a good thing or not, I’m unsure). This year went a bit better than the previous year, since the country wasn’t under COVID restrictions; nevertheless, I mostly stayed at home because of Mom’s precarious situation. Fortunately, she didn’t give me a good justification for having stayed mostly home.

Esther is a tax-accountant, as you probably know. Unfortunately, she’s a US tax-accountant, and the US tax deadlines correspond roughly with our holidays this year. Because of that (among other things), she has had to put in very long hours, and is very much looking forward to the upcoming sukkoth holiday, when she can rest (though, apparently, not on the intermediate days — which makes her and me less than pleased).

Sarah and Yarin made it to Daniela’s safely, and from what I can tell are enjoying their trip to the Olde Country. I do believe Daniela and Jeremy and the kids are enjoying the visit as well, at least I hope so.

Some things of note:

Among other things, I managed to do some work on 8th, getting console-mode GUI on Linux working nicely. A small thing for you, a big deal for some of my users, and a lot of work for me.

I’ve got to get started on our sukka. It won’t be as fancy as the one our neighbor’s been working on for the past week, with his power tools and everything, but it’s not supposed to be fancy…

The weather was very nice for the Awe-full Days, and while shabbat looks to be a bit warmer, it’s apparently going to be very warm in the sukka. As it almost always is, here in the Land…

We’ll exercise restraint this shabbat, with a menu containing:
homemade ḥalla, chicken soup with matza balls, shepherd’s pie, most likely some other things, various salatim, and honey cake.

Until next time,
shabbat shalom and ḥag sameaḥ!
