Last week I mentioned how manly I was in removing the trisim and fixing the gaping hole in the wall. This week, Esther and I were engaged in fixing other wall defects, removing an unused gas fixture, painting the room (two coats), rearranging the furniture, replacing old electrical outlets, and making and hanging drapes.
We’ll be quite happy to do nothing whatsoever on shabbat!
All these travails began because we had determined our old-but-good-quality sofas needed to be reupholstered. After having found an upholsterer who could do the work, we figured it would be an opportune time to remove the trisim (which Esther had been on about for years, now). So naturally, one thing led to another, and here we are: ready to collapse.
But I will say, the room looks quite nice now, and the rearrangement (Esther’s idea) does utilize the space more effectively.
A few notions:
- The Israeli licensee of “Ben & Jerry’s” on why he is suing them. I hope he wins a huge settlement.
- An interview with David Sacks (one of the founders of PayPal) on how “big-tech is strangling your freedom”.
- “Uncle Joe” Biden is up to his elbows in Ukraine.
- While it’s true that Biden can’t utter a coherent sentence, he’s still more eloquent than Kamala Harris. I honestly cringe every time I hear her open her mouth.
- A Middle-Easterner’s view on some tentative conclusions which may be reached concerning the Russia-Ukraine war.
Besides all the handiwork, I was busy with other things as well. One day I had two medical appointments: the first, a dermatologist who told me I’m A-OK. The second, the same day but at midnight, for an MRI of my stupid elbow. I should have waited until after all the carry-on, so they could do a full-body-scan…
Anyway, the MRI results aren’t in yet, though I did examine the images very carefully and could determine that I have bones, muscles, and veins in my arm. That’s good news, I think; the expert opinion may be different.
In between, we tried to do (paying) work. Esther did more of that than I did, but hopefully next week we’ll be back to normal. Our sofas should be returning to us beginning of the week some time, and all will be right with the world!
We’re done with winter. A heat-wave started yesterday, and will be on and off over the next several days. More on than off, in fact. We’ll probably have the A/C on over shabbat.
Trying to stay awake for shabbat-rosh-ḥodesh, we’ll dine upon:
ḥalla,
Moroccan lemon-olive chicken,
tortilla de papas,
roasted veggies,
various salatim,
and lemon cake.
Until next time,
shabbat shalom and ḥodesh ṭov!
