We had a rather eventful week. Further preparations for the impending visit of the grands et. fam. took some chunk of our time, as you might expect. We also booked our reciprocal trip, on the theory that a “bird in the hand…” and so forth.

I had two medical appointments at the hospital’s outpatient clinic: first for my tennis elbow, second for my bloody nose.

The elbow guy examined me, looked at the MRI results, and said: “it takes a year to a year and a half or so to heal”. In other words, I just have to “suck it up” for another year. If, after that time, it hasn’t gotten better, then (he said) it’s possible to talk about surgery. But (he said) the surgery for this condition is only about 50% effective, and the recovery time is very long, and best avoided. So, no harm, no foul, I guess?

The nose lady gave my snout a very thorough examination with a fiber-optic cable. That was unpleasant but I stoically endured it. Then she used a chemical cautery in my nostril; that was most unpleasant, and my nose still hurts. Hopefully, this procedure will have stopped the bleeding bouts, but if not — I have a return trip authorized. Gonna’ be honest, I’m hoping to avoid that return trip.

Today, we’ve got a contractor coming over in the morning to find out why our roof leaks. We’ve had several people come look at it over the years, to no avail; but this guy has special equipment. He said, “one thing I can guarantee: we’ll fix the leak”. I admire his confidence; hopefully it’s not misplaced. Come winter, we’ll know for sure: the question is, after his repairs do I dare patch and repaint?

And this morning, my lovely wife is taking off to her knitting klatch. I’m assigned the task of “sous chef”, so you know things will be interesting!

Which you weren’t meant to know:

You all know I’m not an Apple “fanboi”, but I’m here to tell you that the “MacBook Air” I got this week is a really sweet bit of hardware. My only complaint is how difficult Apple makes it to customize the interface. I got it because some of my 8th users requested a port to the new Apple “M1” chip, and my Apple machines are quite old and neither has that chip, so I couldn’t test. Now I can, and I’ve managed to put together the first port of 8th, which promptly crashes. That’s progress, believe it or not!

The weather’s been quite warm but not overpoweringly so, though shabbat is going to be warmer still. Sunday will see a drastic temperature drop, which is quite welcome.

Esther’s disappearance this morning puts a dent in our shabbat menu, which is (planned to be):
ciabatta loaves, chicken schnitzel, coleslaw, smashed potatoes, some kind of quiche, various salatim, and some dessert.

Until next time,
shabbat shalom!
