It’s raining! The first rain of the season started yesterday, only a few days after we shifted our prayers to mention rain. Very nice timing!

Monday was the last of the major holidays (for now). Afterwards, we took down the sukkah and cleaned up the back area. We decided that for next year, we (meaning “Ron”) will arrange the sukkah differently. Inspired by our neighbor’s brilliant use of their house walls, we’re planning on doing something similar. The end result should be to reduce the amount of work needed to set things up, a worthy goal indeed.

In more eventful news: we got Esther’s car back from the garage! They fixed it up so it’s at least as good as it was before the “event”. Now we have to await the insurance company’s decision as to exactly what and who pays how much. It’s only money!

Things:

I’ve started training for a side-gig doing “patent analysis”. So I need to know what the essential parts of a patent are, and be able to write up a concise description of the patent and its relative merits. This opportunity came to me through a former business partner, and if it works out will let me indulge my grandchildren more often.

As I mentioned before, Esther’s had to work through the holiday, putting in very long hours and getting quite frustrated with clients’ lack of timely responses. After all, the IRS doesn’t care if you don’t feel like sending the documentation in, and Esther can’t invent numbers to provide them. Maybe she should also take up patent analysis…

Daniela et fam visited the NY Sheep and Wool Festival in Rhinebeck, NY. Daniela of course had ulterior knitting-related motives, while I believe Jeremy was less than enthusiastic. But the kids enjoyed the petting zoo, and came away with some more plush toys. Good thing they’ve got a big house.

The weather has turned autumn-like (for our part of the Middle East). No air-conditioning required, though it hasn’t quite settled into the winter pattern yet. We’re expecting mild weather for the next week, with occasional rain showers.

This shabbat’s menu includes:
homemade ḥalla, chicken Provençal, baked potatoes and yams, various salatim, and brownies.

Until next time,
shabbat shalom!
