Well, that was special! We no sooner finished shabbat when we were notified by the “Home Front Command” that the lovely folks ruling Iran had decided to send a few hundred missiles of various sorts our way. Needless to say, we had a noisy and restless night. Fortunately, Israel’s defenses were up to the task (actually far surpassing reasonable expectations). We also had some help from the US (intercepting 1% of the incoming), as well as both Saudi Arabia and Jordan.
This last has caused many here to proclaim that peace with SA is just around the corner. I urge caution. SA and IL interests are aligned at present, which makes us allies-of-convenience. It remains to be seen whether or not relations between us warm up when external pressures abate. Hopefully soon, our government will take serious action against Iran, though the US forbade it. Oops… maybe we’ve started, and pesaḥ won’t be so quiet.
Serious question: why is this US administration so protective of Iran?
Taken into account:
- My friend’s ruminations on the morning after.
- The “Free Press” opines on Tucker Carlson turning insane.
- Walsh opines these protestors deserve a century in prison. Can’t say I disagree.
- It does my heart good: “Syria Girl”, an Assad fangirl and rabid antisemite, is being sued for defamation after having falsely accused a Jew of being a murderer on social-media.
- Wholesome, manly, entertainment: medieval fire arrows!
Despite the vicissitudes of this mortal existence, we managed to be quite productive this week. We converted the kitchen from “normal” to “pesaḥ” mode. I finished painting the patched walls. Actually, since there was more paint than I needed, I continued painting until I ran out of paint. We did weeding in the garden, and shopped for pesaḥ. I made a new release of 8th, again. And a four-inch-long black scorpion came in the house, forcing me to wield our shop-vac in defence. Never apologize!
Now we can (mostly) relax, since the heavy-lifting is done!
The weather was unstable this week, with a mini-heat-wave. Cooling is expected for shabbat, but heating again for the beginning of pesaḥ. Vicissitudes…
This shabbat is a tricky one, since we’ve converted the kitchen to pesaḥ-mode but we still have to have regular bread. The meal should have:
homemade ḥallah (from the freezer),
chicken and potatoes,
various salatim,
and fruit.
Until next time,
shabbat shalom!
