Last week I mentioned the sore throat, and that I’d visit the clinic to see what was going on if it didn’t clear up. Well, it didn’t. The clinic’s “quick tests” ruled out Flu A and B, COVID, and Strep. But to be sure, they took a throat culture which would take a few days to return. OK.
Not OK: it turns out it was indeed Strep. So I got them to give me a course of antibiotics, and that’s how I spent the last few days of the Grand Tour: popping pills. The good news is that it seems to be helping, though I’ve got another week’s worth of pill-popping to go through.
As my birthday fell during this last week, the Grands made certain I had plenty of “presents” and cards. They’re getting quite clever and inventive, though it might be said a little goes a long way. Finally, our last day came and we bid them all adieu as they left for school. Daniela came back to see us off in the afternoon, and off we went.
Various and sundry:
- My friend’s blog cum book-review.
- A thread on Pres. Carter’s damaging effect on Israel’s security and international standing.
- Another thread on Pres. Biden’s commutation of 37 death sentences. Well worth reading to know just who is being let back out.
- And Elon Musk takes on the world (this won’t end well, per Mallen).
We landed back in the Land on Thursday afternoon, to a kitchen in need of restocking. So we decided to do some shopping, only to find our car wouldn’t start. The brand-new car wouldn’t start. It seems that with all the electronic gizmos embedded in today’s cars, you cannot leave them un-driven for very long. Particularly the “hybrid” vehicles, since the usual “car battery” in them is solely for the purpose of keeping those electronic do-dads operating.
I think there’s a market for cars that are, you know, just bloody cars.
We’re not yet back in sync with proper time, so it’s looking like we’ll be having an “in-shabbat”. The weather’s supposed to turn cold and rainy, so I won’t particularly mind staying snug at home. Not that I ever mind, mind…
We’re back home, baby! This shabbat we’re invited out for one meal. Because we only got back Thu afternoon, for the rest we’ll try out:
pita from the store,
chicken-in-a-pot,
potatoes and carrots,
a few salatim,
and fruit.
Until next time,
shabbat shalom!
