Finally, a week without notable physical activity! The seder doesn’t count…

We had a good seder with out-of-town friends. It was nice to get together again, and I’m assuming since nobody complained, that they also had a good time. It was rather cold, and there were some rain spasms, so we stayed indoors and talked, mostly.

Among other things I had to inform them of the various uses of, and differences between, Raspberry Pi and Arduino devices. Yes, it’s true, (some of) our friends are also nerds!

Verily:

  • Uri on the greatest “hostage deal” that never happened.
  • Former hostage Noa Argamani was written in Time Magazine as one of the 100 “most influential people” of 2025. The butt-nugget who wrote the bit, one Douglas Emhoff (remember him?) neglected to mention, even in passing, that she’s Israeli. I guess “some people did something”, etc…
  • Schneier on the Signal Chat Leak and the NSA. Elsewhere: the best WhatsApp alternatives (and why you might consider them).
  • Nerd valley: splitting water takes more energy than predicted, and now scientists know why. Can you control plasma with sound? And finally: the EEVBlog discusses the recent hullabaloo around getting free energy from the Earth’s magnetic field.
  • And for your entertainment, Matt talks about Katy Perry’s “historic” trip to space, in search of the “Divine Feminine”. I thought that was Lynda Carter, back in the day…

I spent some not-insignificant amount of time making changes to the “Mechon Mamre” site. You may have to “reload” the pages to see the changes, but I think the overall effect is much nicer and less cluttered.

The weather was, as mentioned, cold and drear over the first part of the holiday, but has been getting warmer through the week. We expect above-average temperatures and sunny skies for shabbat and yom-ṭov.

This shabbat is also the last day of pesaḥ. We’re invited out for one meal; for the rest:
matza (still!), lamb and fava stew, rice, broccoli kugel, roasted eggplant, tuna salad, various salatim, and various desserts.

Until next time,
shabbat shalom and ḥag sameaḥ!
