Once again, this blog is actually being pushed out on Thursday evening, because we’re at Daniela’s with The Grands.
The trip coming here was long, and the departure time was gruesome; but for the first time I can recall, we got through the check-in process in 5 minutes flat. Upon arrival at JFK we got through passport-control in 5 minutes flat as well! Absolutely amazing and unexpected; however, the baggage-claim made up for it, since ours was the absolute last set of luggage off the carousel. Can’t win ‘em all…
We arrived at our (final) destination early afternoon, greeted by Jeremy. The Grands (and their mother) showed up after school, late afternoon, and we were appropriately inundated with hugs. All’s well that ends well!
It took us a day to recover from jet-lag, which wasn’t really too bad at all. Those 12 hour flights, though…
Stuff:
- Foreign airlines return slowly to Israel. Well, some do, some don’t, some might…
- Sorry, NY Times: “Tikkun Olam” isn’t actually a “central concept of Judaism”.
- A thread on the EO giving agencies 365 days to list all regulations with a criminal penalty. TL;DR: currently, hardly anybody knows what might get you into trouble with the law.
- Once again: the reason why “they must go”.
I haven’t particularly kept up with the news this week, nor have I consulted my Magic 8-Ball, so I don’t know what fresh new batch of chaos has been unleashed by President Trump. I’m unsure how much of what I see in the news is just the usual attempts to draw him in the most unflattering way possible, how much is him playing 5D Chess™, and how much is literally the truth.
Please, can someone make it all make sense?
In the meantime, we look forward to a possibly not very restful shabbat with The Grands and their parents, and possibly Sarah and Yarin as well!
The weather turned out cool and wet, while we had been hoping for dry. Alas, it was not meant to be.
This shabbat we’re at Daniela’s and I think the menu includes:
homemade ḥalla,
butternut squash soup,
roasted eggplant,
balsamic chicken,
ptitim salad,
roasted cauliflower salad,
various salatim,
and apple turnovers.
Until next time,
shabbat shalom!
