This is our last blog from the Exile, for a while, since we’re returning home next week. We’ve had a lot of fun with the Grands et fam though!

We spent our early mornings and late-afternoon-evenings with them, since they’re at school during the day. Now that the twins read, voraciously, on their own, they don’t have us read to them — which gives us a mixed feeling. On the one hand, we’re excited and happy they enjoy reading, but we also miss those cuddly reading moments. But such is life.

Jojo still likes being read to, but he enjoys playing games even more (“Sorry!” and “Happy Family” are two current favorites). The twins are more likely to enjoy horsing around or making jokes. So we do.

While they’re off at school, Esther and I’ve been busy anyway. She’s been working, mostly; and I’ve been performing the usual handyman jobs (fixing toilets, repairing shelving, etc…). Good thing, I’m good at those sorts of things!

Various and sundry:

One day my sister drove up and visited with us, which was nice. One evening we went out for dinner with Sarah and Yarin at a nice place in Manhattan. We had an enjoyable evening, though Esther and I were a bit stumped getting out of Grand Central Station at the correct spot. Another day, Daniela, Sarah, Esther, and I went to see a movie (yes, the most recent “Mission Impossible” — the name says it all better than I could). The last time the four of us went to a movie together must have been when they were still kids — quite a long time ago.

The twins’ birthday parties are next week, and we’ve got to rest up to be prepared for all the festivities. I’m not sure I can handle it, but I’ll put on a brave face. Naomi insists we must go to her party, and we are incapable of refusing her! Gabe isn’t as insistent, but he’s acquiesced to our presence.

Looking forward to a cool shabbat with no precipitation, probably. Next week, back at home for shabbat IY”H.

This shabbat we’re still at Daniela’s and some of the menu may be:
homemade ḥalla, chicken soup, salmon, brisket, rice, various salatim, and banana muffins.

Until next time,
shabbat shalom!
