This week Israel celebrated two back-to-back “holidays”: our “memorial day”, commemorating all our brave soldiers who‘ve made the ultimate sacrifice for our country‘s defense, and our “independence day”, the 78th since Israel‘s founding. As always, the day is marked by profligate quantities of various meats being barbecued around the country.

We, most unusually for us, traveled about halfway up the country to visit with friends and partake of their profligate quantities of roasted meats. To get there, we took an “inner road”, route 60, which is quite scenic, if you ignore the Arab towns and villages. One such is the town of Sinjil which, as we passed it, I noticed was surrounded by a rather new looking barbed-wire fence. I wondered why that was.

Then I read about it and realized they had been throwing rocks and Molotov cocktails at passing (Israeli) traffic, so the Army had to control their exuberant expressions of hostility. Now they‘re crying about it; and, I am inspired to say to them, “tough shit” and “FAFO”.

Various and sundry:

In what should be absolutely inconceivable but apparently isn‘t any longer, two IAF technicians have been charged with spying for Iran. Now, some of you think I‘m an old softy; but if the gov‘t ever raffles off the opportunity to pull the trigger on such as these, I would hope to win. I don‘t care what justification these shticks dreck have come up with: they deserve death. I‘m pretty sure I‘m not unique in thinking that, either. At the very least, they should have their citizenship revoked and be exiled to Iran, or Afghanistan or some other Muslim shithole.

Glad to have got that off my chest!

It‘s warming up and will be rather warmer than average on shabbat, getting close to 30C or so. Not cool (so to speak)! Esther‘s going to spend Friday morning with her knitting support group, so I‘ll have the run of the kitchen. Heh, heh…

This shabbat we‘ll have no less than:
ḥallah, meatloaf, smashed potatoes, various salatim, and cookies.

Until next time,
shabbat shalom!
