A month or so back I had mentioned having a technician come out to fix our “water-bar”; the problem being that it insisted on filling up the drain-catchment when in “shabbat-mode”. We had a tech come up, twice, to “fix it”, to no avail. Finally, we got the company to agree to replace it, and this week we did just that. Now we‘ve got a shiny new machine, but it remains to be seen if it works better than the one it replaces. We‘ll let you know next week, B“H.
I must give a “shout-out” to my friend‘s son-in-law Gil, who mentioned (last shabbat) that, when using ChatGPT for long-term work, it‘s better to use its notion of “projects” rather than “chats”… and, indeed, my experience (with the translation project) is much better now.
Of various note:
- My friend‘s (a different one; I do have more than one!) lighthearted blog.
- Preston‘s Iran war updates: 1; 2; 3.
- Who knew? The SPLC (Southern Poverty Law Center) has now got a federal indictment against them for a variety of fraudulent activities. Huh.
- Uri: 10 quotes that prove their goal was always genocide, and Israel‘s madness.
- On “vibe-coding” (using AI to assist in writing software), one person says my codebase is a disaster. Good grief, I‘ve been saying this for a while now.
- Is Trump the Mashiaḥ? He declared a ‘national Sabbath’.
- An Israeli class-action lawsuit was filed against BYD (the Chinese car company) for transferring user‘s data to third parties outside Israel. What great intellects are trusting the PRC?
- Food nerds: the breakfast of presidents and kings.
- Tool nerds: the weird physics of sandpaper.
Once again, I sent out a new version of 8th. I also spent considerable time fixing various bugs one of my users has found. Oh, the joys of software development!
The weather for shabbat is going to be hot, like last week; but we‘re covered!
This shabbat we‘ve got guests for one meal; we hope they‘ll enjoy:
homemade ḥallah,
mushroom soup,
brisket with veggies,
potatoes,
various salatim,
gravlax,
and banana cake.
Until next time,
shabbat shalom!
