Question: Must I use a specific nusach for my prayers?

The Law is that one must pray (and make blessings) using the format the Sages established. However, the Sages did not set a fixed text for prayer but rather gave general guidelines with specific requirements.

Since all nuschaoth currently in use satisfy the major requirements, one fulfills his obligations using any of them. However, one should also learn specifics about what to omit or add, since there are certain problematic additions or omissions in popular use.

For example, "mi sheberach" on Shabbath or Yom-Tov is forbidden according to our Sages, as it represents asking for personal favors during these times.
